New muffler

Post by scotisha »

So as much as I like sounding like a ricer I think that I will get a new muffler for the terc. The place where the muffler attaches to the pipe that runs from the front on the car has rusted and sheared off. I am going to get a new muffler but am wondering if anyone has any input on the brands and types that I should be looking for. Any other suggestions would be healpful too.

Thanks!

Just a standard muffler works fine.
No need to spend a lot of you don't need it.

Just get a standard muffler, but you might consider getting a larger one. And also replace the tail pipe, and the section of pipe ahead of the muffler, replaced with the larger tubing (2" would be good). This will reduce back pressure a bit and improve your economy. it should not cost too much to do this.

The OEM muffler is one piece from the cat back, and it seems that the federal mufflers are the only ones available. I went to a muffler shop and had an adapter madE for about $15. The muffler was a little over a hundred as I recall.

It seems I had an OEM type muffler installed in a honda civic for only about $49 a few years ago (a coupon special). I even think the muffler chain (Mieneke IIR) gave it a lifetime warrenty. Why bother do-it-yourself if you can get it done for you that cheap? I would check the current auto ads in your paper or the mail, and call the local shops to see what they would charge first.

Thats why all my exh. work goes through the local shop. In fact, most business within a maybe 20 mile radius goes through them. They do an awesome job.

My $160 full length exhaust is still going strong. Just had to replace the glasspack that made it thru maybe 4 yrs or so (it was on the car before the exhaust was done).

The ss special. Custom made cat cover is rusting thru some....metal was too light. Generally doing fine. New glasspack is a bit large...bought it for the truck...but they sent the wrong one. Sounds OK though.
