4afe= economy version of 4age. the question is: how do you drive? if you're like me (on a freeway or interstate going 70mph) youll want a 4age, most of its power is in the top range. however, if you do most of your driving in low rpms (urban areas where the speed limits are under 30mph, or offroad) then a 4afe is more well suited.

for this winter its going to just be my daily driver to work, witch is freeway/ city. however it will become my primary off road car probly come spring as i retire my 83, if it ever dies (wich i dont think it will) i know the 4afe has my low end tq witch is good for off road, but the 4age has more of a following with more suport in the aftermarket and forms for help troubleshooting.
or i was thinking about trying to find a 7afe

a 7afe is basically a 4afe with a 1.8L block. It is available in late-90s celicas (the ones with 4 round headlights, i have no idea what generation it is) and i think a few corollas. It has about the same HP as the 4afe, but a good bit more torque in the low end.
im going with a red-top 4age (comes from an AE86) because about 75% of my driving is on interstates & highways. I just dont feel comfortable on a 75-mph zone & having a 62hp engine, im sure some of our other members can relate to that

The number comes from SkiWagons doing a bunch of testing.
