Buying my first Tercel tomorrow. 83 SR5 4WD with 250k on the body, ~160k on the engine. Minimal rust on the lower edge of the hatch. Oregon native car, now going to be in Utah. Pretty clean overall, $700.
I am a Toyota Freak. I love everything Toyota. Huge Land Cruiser guy for the last 25 years. Expedition travel and rock crawling. I've owned probably a dozen or more Toyota 4WDs. Pickups, 4Runners, and Land Cruisers. I'm excited to mess with a Tercel. I've always thought they were way cool. We just did about 1000 miles in Baja in the Cruiser, I think a properly set up Tercel would do well down there.
I am also a BMW motorcycle and car enthusiast. I've had a few of each. Currently daily driving and improving an 87 325is. Fun little rocket that is easy to work on.
I wrench on all my vehicles as I am a self diagnosed OCD and I don't trust anyone to work on my rigs.
I'm active on Toyota and BMW forums as well as a local Land Cruiser Club. I look forward to learning from you guys in servicing and modding my Tercel.
That's me, thanks.

Welcome. The Tercel tends to create Toyota lovers out of most, so it should reinforce the affection you already have. As for the hatch rust, that's an area that tends to be a problem even in southern climates. The hatch on my Tercel has rust in the inner seam in several places (fortunately it doesn't show outside), and it's lived it's entire life in non-coastal southern locations.
Enjoy that new Tercel, and post pics.

Welcome to the forums! Everyone here is extreemly helpful and it sounds like you will make a great addition with your Toyota knowledge.
BMW and Toyota, the best manufactures out there! I have a '93 325i for long trips (tercel doesn't make it up to 180) and the '87 tercel for the 3 ft of snow in the winter.
And ditto with posting some pics of your new stylin' ride!
