New acquisition

Post by JOE »

Picked up another rare item. 1990 Corolla 4wd wagon. 174000km. Mint condition. Took a quick picture, but will post more later. Came in on trade. Old couple had owned it since new, traded in on a Subaru Forester of all things (something Toyota lacks these days is an affordable 4wd car) I paid $4500.00 for it. Pondering whether to sell my 85 Tercel but think I might keep it. Don't really need two 4wd wagons.

Very nice! One of my all time favorites. Looks like the super rare one with the two tone paint and aluminum wheels... I think Toyota made some great JDM accessories for that car; maybe even a dash altimeter. Would love to see more pics.

I say KEEP BOTH... They belong together. :D

COOL !
More pix, please - and Thanks!
Naive question, but is $4500CAD a good price? It seems a bit high?

I would think there is a market for affordable 4WD wagons, as witness Subaru's success - but I guess the Mothership has studied this
and has nixed it - why? Maybe it thinks it would hurt the sale of its SUVs because it is too rational for many drivers, and Subie doesn't
have a "real" SUV? Sounds plausible.

There was an AWD version of the Matrix through the 2006 model year, but it was discontinued for 2007. We sold maybe one or two a year at the dealership, out of 400+ Toyotas a month. When we had our big flood in May of 06, the one we had on the lot had a dead battery, so when it floated, we pushed it to higher ground. It was totaled by the insurance company, but since the electronice were never powered up, it would have been a good candidate for resurrection. I'd have bought it, but Toyota doesn't let that happen.

BTW, the AWD Matrix was only available in an automatic, and it had lower horsepower than a regular Matrix.

There has been some chitter-chatter about potential AWD/4wd cars coming from Toyota with Hybrid technologies.
The AWD Matrix sold pretty well here. Then again, it is Colorado....

Toyota still makes non-matrix AWD wagon for the JDM called the fielder saw plenty there last year. I've been looking at the AE95 corolla wagon too. SR5 came with all the niceities electric windows, cruise, diff lock and heaps of other options. My friend has one that he wants to give away but is a DLX with a blowen engine. He always prefered to drive my Tercel anyway they feel like 2 completely diferent cars to drive the Terc being somewhat agile and revvy the 'rolla low and fairly torquey.

Nice car! If I find one with low km's around here for a similar price, I'm going to jump on it. My terc has so much rust, and I want something with EFI, but as close to the terc as possible. I look forward to seeing more pics and hearing how you like it.
