Headlight question

Post by keith »

86 model. I have been using the H4 headlights that are rated at 55/65 watts. I noticed that there are the same headlights rated at 35/45 watts. The problem is that our Tercel doesn't put out as much light as it should. I don't see how upgrading the bulbs from the lower wattage to the higher wattage could be causing a lower output, even if the wiring is a little thin, but could that be possible? Could the lower resistance of the high watt bulbs drop lower voltage, with the wiring harness dropping more voltage, produce less light than the 35/45 watt bulbs?

I'm looking at putting in some relays and larger wiring, if I can find new sockets with larger pigtail wires and upgrading the system, but if putting in the lower wattage bulbs would actually increase the output, that would be easier.

Thoughts or theories?

I'd say it could very well end up being the same wattage output, but if the larger ones were meant to do more, they could have a weaker beam pattern resulting in less effective lighting?
I'd definitly say go for the larger harness.
