Fumes,I wouldnt let P.E.T.A. (people for the ethical treatment of Autos) see pictures of that poor, sorry~ass mazda. You could at least put some old~weels(13's)on it and roll it out to a quiet~field, where it can roam freely in its final days! Born~Free man...thats all I can say.!:P!:P...and Takza,I cant even bring myself to talk about your little "cat conversion" operation,up in the hills where its still consitered acceptable. All I can say is...I hope the money is worth it...:(
Some areas have laws against any unregistered cars. I ended up getting such a good deal on the load of parts I bought because the guy had to get rid of his car because they were getting fined for it. My country is a little bit less fascist and they don't bother you as much about what you have on your own property but I'll see how much trouble I get into when I have more than one car.
Finally some progress!
I was in Finland for the month of August, and while I was there my friend conquered the 4WD selector arm. He cut a slot into it and it came off. Then he had the slot welded closed so it could be reused.
Now that I'm back, we put the drivetrain back in the body. Next is the wiring and the fuel plumbing for the EFI. I also got a Suzuki Tech 1 scan tool for my car (Geo Metro), it will work on Hornbeam now too!
Fumes! I was wundering what happend to you and the EFI project! How did you end~up in Finland? Rally races,Elk(reindeer?),Beautiful women(we know their there!)Im packing my bow and going to Finland!
When I lived in Astoria Oregon, theres was a huge Finnish population there. We had a fairly steady diet of fresh Elk,Sturgon,Salmon,Dunguness crab and Razor clams.uuuuummmmmm ElkBurgers!!!

That's a 4WD Golf Country. I believe it was factory done. I think they're quite rare, I saw 3 in Finland.
The other red Golf is the one I drove while I was there.
daveg wrote: DUDE! The europeans get the coolest cars. I wonder if you can get it with a diesel engine? What an awesome little car. Not as good as a tercel though.
A mate of mine has a VW Golf. It's lighter than the Tercel and got a slightly larger engine, btu he's doing the sort of mods I've done, such as the Weber and things.
That Gold has that same can't-kill-it-with-an-axe feel about it that the Tercels have. You know? Bulletproofness?
I wonder if the design is similar. Or the same feller did both...
1983 Tercel SR5 with 185/75R14 tyres, 32/36 DGAV Weber carburetor, lumpy cam and upgraded Pioneer sound system. Veteran of several fire seasons (with the scars to show it) and known as "The Racing Turtle"
Wow, I can't believe it's been almost a year since I started this thread.
We started working on the EFI conversion again. A 3-gallon fuel tank is going in the spare tire well. It's a plastic boat tank.
The Suzuki sending unit/pickup assembly fits the tank almost perfectly! I wonder if Suzuki and Toyota use the same Nippon Denso sending unit, I'd love to use the original fuel gauge.
Now we need to run some new fuel lines. And do some wiring. And add some vital fluids and reinstall the radiator.
Mark 1 golfs (74-80) have even got there own magazine in England.. plenty of parts availalble because they still make them in Brazil. Lots of performance mods to!
Why didn't Toyota start building Tercels in South America like Volkswagon do in Brazil and Mexico?
I always wanted a GTI they are an all time classic car. 1600 OHC only 85kw but heaps of fun
I had a 1980 Golf and it must have been made on a Friday afternoon after knock off beers cos I ended up replacing everything mechanical. It's 4 speed gearbos would make it really noisy at 100kmph.. saying that though I did get it to 160kmph once I think it was one of the last ones assembled in OZ by the nissan factory.
I had a weber and front suspension on mine with some Mark3 golf wheels and it sure felt/sounded fast and went really well for it's age. They do have a super sweet gearbox and great exhaust note and a solid clang when you close the doors that remind you of old beetles.
In fact both one of my best mates and me both had Golfs and ended up with Tercels. We wouldn't go back to European cars anyday. they are just too expensive to fix!
