E-brake ripped out plus burning smell.

Post by badasstercel »

OK, i bought my 2wd tercel and the e-brake was literally ripped out of the floor from a previous owner. this is what it looks like:

when i drive my car, the "! BRAKE" light comes on when my foot is not on the pedal. also, there is a strong 'burning' smell coming from the INSIDE of the car, there is not a smell on the outside. my dad popped the hood and the smell is not coming from the hood.
could it possibly be the e-brake?
if i DO need to fully replace the e-brake, is it going to cost a lot, and is it going to be a weekend project or could it be done in one day?
please, if anybody knows of how to fix this, i would appreciate any suggestions/help!

crap. dont even bother fixing that, just get a replacment e-brake cable & handle (i noticed the mount is broke on yours) at a local junkyard. the factory service manual is available to download on http://www.tercel4wd.com, that should assist in removing & installing a new one.

My guess for the smell would be the e-brake too. If it was the exhaust, it would also come from the outside.

Cost? probably at the most, 30 bucks. But it probably takes about an hour or two to fix.
