adjust timing

Post by joecell »

hi - the 84 toyota tercel 4wd is one of my favorite cars ever.

recently I've decided to try adjusting the timing, but this distributor looks dif than say a 84 oldsmobile or ford. that is, it's square, with all of the leads on one side. how do I go about setting the timing forward? is there still one bolt to undo, then twist?

thanks,
uncertain but hopeful

Welcome to the Club!
I would suggest doing a Search.
I woud also suggest downloading the FSM available.

hey, thanks!

a couple more quick ones. first, where would I find this available FSM? After some looking I have not located an electronic version. -- very useful webpage by the way. I could have used it 3 years ago when I had the entire cooling system spilled out on someone's front lawn in Fernie BC.

Next, whats the best way to disable the fuel pump? Its a mechanical pump, i understand... if I just block the outlet tube will I cause damage? or is there an earlier tube to block?

thx, happy driving w/ tercels. wish mine was still legal -

The FSM link is available on the first page of the site (not the Forum Index)...
There is an ongoing discussion on the fuel pump...click the "New posts" feature...
