i want boost

i know your laughing, but i want to make the dream come true. I was at the local mudpit last sunday, and down came this crew of L-series subaru sportswagons, all jacked up with wrx sti turbo engines in them. I havnt been able to stop thinking about it since and how good it would be to show them all up in a tercel 4wd running 15 psi hahahaha.

But how to do it????????

ive had a couple of ideas like putting a whole wrx running gear & engine in my car, (with a few modifications of course), and having it all wheel drive all the time.

But i dont know what engine will fit with the least trouble while still letting me have 4wd or at least all wheel drive!?!?!?

ANY IDEAS throw them at me, i dont care how stupid they sound.

i now know the reason i was put on this planet.

It's been discussed a few times before. Try searching.
These are probably two of the better threads:

The pics of the one in Finland aren't showing up, so here they are:

take a pile of money, then a pile of parts(good parts) and a lot of time and then add some more money
tercel 4wd custom suspension, under drive pulley, vented brakes, cold air intake, and plenty more to come

forget the Subi set up (unless you just buy one and use it as it without the tercel).

I would find a turbo engine from a Toyota MR2, have your 3-A flywheel modifined for eight bolt chrank (also lighten and balance it while you are at it), and bolt the engin into the turc. You will have to cut a hole in your firewall to clear the new distrubutor location, or convert to a distributorless ingition system (even better!). You will also have to adapt the fuel injection system. I would also use the 4.1:1 final drive ratio differencials if you do not already have them.

Then you would have the only 20 valve, fuel injected and trubo charged Tercel4wd in the world. And it would be a lot easier than switching to a Subi dirve train. ANd it would raise a lot of eye brows.

Take pictures and let us know how it turns out.

unless i do it first. :o

But seriously, the 20 valve requires 100 octane. The only way i see overcoming this is premium fuel and octane booster. then adding a turbocharger would bring the power around 190-200HP.

By the way, i believe 20vtercel has turbo on his, but i dont think hes been on in a while.

I dont mean to correct you petros, but the engine in the later first-gen MR2s is NOT a turbo, it is a supercharger.

And what about the tranny? it would obivously need some upgrades.

But I know there is tubo version available. Of course you could opt for the non-turbo version too, 120-140 hp is not too shabby for the tercel.

As for transmissions I do not think there are any upgrades available. I would simply keep a good supply of trans available when ever I could find them at the local Pull-a-part. And get good at doing a "quick" trans change.

Yeah, but it's the 3S-GTE engine from the MK2 MR2. Great engine, but not likely a bolt-in project.

The MKI never came turbo'd, but it has been swapped. MKII SW11 MR2 came N/A or Turbo. 3SGE or 3SGTE. MKI was 4AGE or 4AGZE.

3SGTE would be interesting to see in a Terc, and I'm sure it could be done, but don't expect to keep 4WD if you want to do that.

4AGE would be a nice swap-in. You could even go get a late-model 4AGE block with oil squirters and turbo it pretty nicely.

20vtercel HAD a 20v Silvertop with Turbo.I think he had low-compression pistons. Yes, they make them.
He was pushing 202HP I believe.
He converted a 4-door hatch into 4WD then did the swap. He twisted the uni-body. He had a custom tranny internal-setup as well. Stock won't handle that very well at all. Drop the clutch once too many times and expect something like this-

Yeah, that is my tranny, no I didn't do it. I bought back my families original Terc with it like that. The main bearing to the center gear tha transfers power from the input shaft to the cluster shaft failed.

It'd still be cool.

Someone in Europe has a turbo'd 3AC. I think Finland or something?

So many of us have toyed with the Subie setup, I think someone shold do it, regardless of the naysayers. No offense Petros or anyone else. It'd be original and fun.

speaking of that, I was wondering if anyone ever made a duel side-draft webber (or solex) set-up for one of these engines. It seems to me that I have seen this set-up for just about evey other small engine (both European and Japan made), has anyone ever made a manifold to fit this engine with the duel side draft carb installation?

It was ususally a pretty expensive set-up, like $600 or $700. Perhaps doing the fuel injection conversion would be easier and cheaper now. I just always got a thrill when someonw would open the hood on a Datsun or MG and see the duel side draft carb installation.

Isn't the non-turbo the 2.2L 5S-FE?

what about a celica gt-4 setup??

i really dont want to lose my 4wd though, its gonna need some seious thought, can you get a custom tranny? or even get your original one modified??

i want the setup as it is now - ( i.e how you can just whack it into 4wd in the sand), with a 5 speed gearbox, and a massive hairdryer under the bonnet haha.

So, i have a front wheel drive car most of the time, with the 4wd for on the beach.

what do ya reckon about the cellica GT-4?

yea, the non turbo 2nd gen mr2 (sw20) was a 5sfe, a camry engine. Only jap mr2's got the 3sge. The celica gt4/alltrac got a 3sgte.

Only real easy semi bolt in engine is gonna be an A series engine. 20 valve 4age or supercharged 16v is gonna be the best bet for pure stock power. Or you could just get a subaru

corolla 4wd wagon with a 4-agze dropped in and Diff lock. Far easier than shoehorning any other engine/tranny's into our econo boxes.

This one is half way to an engine transplant and at $300
