clock and cig. lighter stopped working!

Post by jammin1911 »

my clock and my cig. lighter stopped working this morning... i cracked open the fuse box but I have NO IDEA what fuse it could be, nothing is labeled as anything that should have to do with those. more things might be off also but I haven't been able to find them.

anyone have any idea? are there fuses in the car somewhere that I dont know about? :)

the only boxes i know of are under the hood, and i believe under the left kick panel in front of the driver's door....or somewhere up under there.

isn't there another one behind the passengers front speaker shroud? or is that only on RHD models?

There is also a fuse area in the upper passenger-side kick panel; easiest access is to just unscrew the panel.

HOWEVER - the fuse for the clock and lighter (only) is in the driver-side location. There should be a table on the i/s of the little panel itself. If not, that fuse is a 15A, second down from the top in the middle row. I've shorted mine out twice by clumsiness and inattention when poking around the non-operative (I thought) lighter; what were you doing?

PS: The listing of the fuses should be on the AutoZone site - it's down at the moment, so I couldn't give you a link.

Awesome, thanks! I'll take a look for it.

I don't actually know how it blew. However, I use a power inverter which is always plugged in to my cigarette lighter - I'm not sure if it has something to do with that. Hopefully when I replace the fuse the inverter is still working OK. :)

I'm gonna go scavenge the garage for a 15A fuse... thanks again!

well, I know now why it popped! It was a 5A fuse in there heh.

I couldn't find a 15A, but I put a 7.5A in there, hopefully that will be fine for my needs - it lasted quite a long time with the 5A in there so I figure it's fine for now :D

thanks again, you guys rock. I totally looked down there for a fuse panel and didn't see it. Even after I knew there was one there it took me a good 30 seconds to realize it is where it is. I felt like an idiot when I saw it :)

Whats it rated for? I think mine was 15, but typically one doesn't go over what was in there....

My clock and radio kick in and out when I turn too hard or bump my ignition switch wrong. Turning the key a little bit makes them come back until the next time it happens. Also, depending on how far the key is turned, I'll get more sound on my left speaker and hardly anything out of the right. I think the ignition switch just needs to be replaced.

o.O
Bad wiring? Unwanted resistance perhaps? Check for loose cables...
Maybe bad grounding as well. Dunno why tweaking the ign. would change that though.
