Well, what else is wrong with it? A Terc in good running order will make a 4Runner's fuel economy look like crap. You know, for those grocery store runs. Hard to fit a couple gallons of milk on the back of a cruiser. Just ask me. Or my dad. lol.

You could probably find a used one and rejet it for a lot less than $300

Must the carb be from a manual transmission wagon as well, or can it be from the hatchback? My impression is that if its a carb for a 3a engine it'd be the one i need.
Might be okay with a carb from a hatchback. My '86 5-spd manual hatchback parts car carb is only missing the choke opener compared to the carb from my '87 5-spd manual wagon. No idea if they are both jetted the same though.

Yeah the carb i could get would be from an 85 hatchback MT, and I cant see any differences b/t it and the wagon 3A when looking at the 85 manual that i downloaded. It has 300k kms tho, which is what mine has, so i wonder if it'd be worth it to try to repair mine.

I'm going to put some serious thought into the webber tho. Hmm...
