The Tercel Wagon bug

Post by vengabeast »

In 1999, I was given a brown Tercel Wagon 4wd 6speed and I loved it. (I lovingly referred to is as the Vengabeast). Unfortunatly it wasn't road worthy, but I enjoyed hours and hours of driving it around my families farm. Sadly however, after 2 years of off-road punishment, part of the front end pulled away from the frame as was apparently unfixable. I will shortly be taking possession of a 1988 T4WD (Vengabeast II). Once you get bit by the Tercel bug, you never stop wanting one.

Today however, I have the opportunity to buy an '85 which is road worthy, and I can't wait to get it. Unfortunatly it is an automatic, but that's still better than no Tercel at all. Congrats on finding a road worthy one! That is rare in Ontario. If you don't like the auto, you could swap in the 6spd from your old tercel. You've got all the parts sitting there (assuming you still have the old on sitting around that is). Either way, enjoy the car!

Does the Venga come from a particular club/dance group that was around then?

Good name if so! Well, good either way..

My original name for it was Vengabus...but my friends thought the car was ugly (crazy I know) and Vengabeast stuck.

If you're ever down here vengabeast. Whoooooooaaa man you HAVE to check out the Tercel/Toyota junk yard that is off of the 102 near Enfield. Dad and I were there last spring. Old ass 'Yotas as far as the eye could see, t'was like Heaven I tell's ya. Anyway, here's a Google Maps link, I think we counted at least 5, maybe 7 Tercel Wagons there, and I think and early 70's Corolla. There was even a Metallic Blue Terc like mine stuffed in the back somewhere, actually it was kinda weird seeing 'my' car in a junkyard. Well what looked like mine. I haven't seen any others around here (or on this board now that I think of it, which is odd!) like it so it was freaky.

If you're ever in the area, GO TO THIS place! Just save me some parts. If it was higher resolution we'd be able to see some Tercels there and in the lot. I think Vegas is the only place in Google Earth that's clear enough to ID specific vehicle types, but I could be wrong.

My '87's metallic blue too, as was my FX of the same year, I love that color! That color seems pretty common around here, I think I've seen at least one blue wagon and another FX locally. I kinda want the brown plaid interior though:)

I wish there were junkyards around here with old Toyotas, the U-Pull lots seem to be a dying breed, and the ones that I've been to seem to have nothing pre-'88.

That's too bad, I feel sorry for you.... Wish I could have helped you fix it, lol.... I like fixing rust... Rust is definitely a BITCH! :x
