Carb adjustment info & results...

Post by thebigbread »

SOO, just how important are carburetor adjustments? check this out:
left side is before, right is after

Top speeds

My driveway (800 ft. uphill) 15-17mph 25+mph
Dirt road (1000ft. strip) 25-28mph 47-53mph

0-30mph: 10-13sec. 5-8sec.

just goes to show you, the carburetor can make or break your tercel

adjust the air bleed screw (i think that is what its called) &, using a vacuum gauge on one of the vacuum lines, turn the air bleed screw counterclockwise until the vaccuum peaks, then starts dropping off, then turn clockwise till it peaks again.

the screw is accessed on the carb on the passenger side, at the very bottom. its located in a hole, hard to get to though.

Which vacuum line does the guage hook up to? How did your adjustment differ (in the number of turns) from the FSM or from the Alldata spec that Typrus provided? The FSM calls for turning the screw all the way in (being careful not to over-turn and damage it) and then to back it out 3.25 turns. There is also another part of the FSM procedure that talks about adjusting the Air/Fuel mixture screw in conjunction with the idle screw......

doesnt really matter about the line as long as it has constant vacuum. i did not read the fsm, i simply used trial & error. also, i upped the idle to keep from "sputtering".
