Acetone in terc for better MPG?

Post by gopokes »

This has probably been hashed out before, so apologies if so - Has anyone ever tried putting 2 ounces of acetone per 10 gallons for improved economy and performance? I'm on my second tank of this mixture and I noticed roughly a 3 mpg boost when I topped it off last time. My 84 4wd wagon has a few issues at the moment and as such normally gets 21 mpg around town, with 26mpg on the road. After 100 miles of in-town driving, I ended up at 24 mpg, which for me was pretty good. I read about the acetone on the internet, and from what I've gathered, the acetone reduces surface tension in the fuel, enabling it the vaporize more easily and completely thus giving you a bit more pop and better economy. Thoughts?

You need to have a dialogue with takza; he is the Acetone Advocate of the Tercels...

BTW, there is an extensive dossier about Acetone in the Archives.

I think its under repair section as fuel mods. Fuel and Power. Either repair guides or repair talk.

I've tried it in the Terc...but the last time I did...the gas overflowed while I was trying to put some in.

With my car...once the pump shuts off that's it...and if it's summer...watch out.

I'm getting good mpg results from the Condensator I use....plus will be working on some other mods. Giving up on the fuel heat.

I've used acetone in another car for over 2 yrs...main thing is to keep the concentration in the right area...2.5 to 3 oz per 10 gallons.

My actual mix is now 2.5 oz acetone...2.5 oz xylol...0.25 oz Torco GP7 2-cycle oil per 10 gallons. All 3 increase octane some...the 1st two improve the burn...the last does this and is supposed to help seal the rings.
