running poorly

Post by xirdneh »

my tercel was hard to start if it sat for two days or more. i assumed it was flooding. eventually it would start but it seemed to take a while to warm up. by that i mean it felt like it was cutting out much more than usual before running normal. i switch carbs which made it easier to start but it still has the warming up problem.
the choke works fine.
i replaced the distributor cap, roter, wires and plugs. that helped quite a bit but did not totally fix the problem. i pulled the plugs and all of them are heavily blackend. not the oil kind of black but a running very rich kind of black.
what is going on here?
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

Sounds like a failed thermostat. Although they normally fail in the closed position causing overheating, they CAN fail in the open position causing your car to run cold longer.....

A bullet may have your name on it, but shrapnel is addressed, "To whom it may concern"!!
