I took my tercel this past week to the outer banks, NC and ran the living piss out of it on the beach. I tell you what, it was a thrill to pass a jeep and a Ford F-350, both stuck in the sand, with my little 86 HP 4 cylinder tercel!!! Not to mention one with 270K miles on it!!! I take it every year to isolated beaches in the outerbanks and it never misses a lick. I guess all you other tercel owners out there already know how tuff they are, but it blows me away every time! Once I get my film developed, I'll post some pics (yes, I used an old school camera!). Soon I'm going to tear down my tercel, engine, body, interior, everything and re-do it the way it deserves to be done. I'll post pictures along the way. My tercel looks fantastic now, but it'll look better when it's done.

They come factory with 65-ish. Have you done something we need to know about??? 86 would be FANTASTIC in our cars!
Never gone duning, but I do go mudding every now and then. Its fun to float along the mud with the big guys right along side. Key is- DO NOT STOP! lol

Watch the dry sand and any pockets of mud. Yea...don't stop unless you think you are on hard sand.
The reason the big 4X4s have V8s is so when they get into the deep stuff...they can drop into low range and power thru it...like a paddle wheeler.
I was going to do a camping trip to the outer banks.
You need to take a run up Padre Island in south Texas.

Mighty Tercicles
I useed to take mine ice fishing a lot.Tied a thread to antenna to use as wind sock.Nose ito wind, pop up hatch, drill 4 holes.2 guys can jig 4 rods sitting on rear deck out of wind. Not without risk!Driving on ice isn't always a good idea. Was up at Canyon Ferry,MT and I was pushing snow with license plate till I got her up on plane.Could just run up and down boat ramp for access.Soon chained up big 4x4 PU's were driving over to see what in the hell is that thing.Beware icing in fenderwells.Steering gets compromised.
Kansas and Nebraska wet clay gumbo roads-I have seen 2 454 suburban 4x4s buried in barrow ditch when Tercicle would just float along.Light weight stays on top.Caveat,Limited ground clearance means when the tires do sink in,she lays on her belly and claws.kamifloj

Like my old Volvo 544 with 4wd.I seldom regret neversieze or threadlocker

Clay ground is very dangerous if it rains and you don't expect it. Like driving on grease.kamiphloj wrote:Kansas and Nebraska wet clay gumbo roads-I have seen 2 454 suburban 4x4s buried in barrow ditch when Tercicle would just float along.Light weight stays on top.Caveat,Limited ground clearance means when the tires do sink in,she lays on her belly and claws.kamifloj
On some beaches you will find quicksand where rain water or a stream creates it...if you get the frame down in this stuff...they will end up pulling your car out in pieces due to the suction.
