AE92 parts; anyone need anything?
I am going to start tearing down the spare 89 GTS this weekend, does anyone need anything from this? I'm planning on keeping almost everything off of it, but if anyone needs anything, I may be willing to part with parts.
Not Tercel parts, but I just thought someone might need something. Some of us are more than Tercel people, we are Toyota geeks.
Plus, if anyone wants a 87 GTS (AE86) with a bad rear end, make me an offer. I give up, it has to go.
Fingers

Re: AE92 parts; anyone need anything?
Some one buy the AE86 GTS engine and put it in their tercel!! Typrus, here's your opportunity!
Fingers: How much would you want for the fuel injectors and ballast resistor from the 89 GTS? I assume you probably want to keep it all, but thought it was worth a try...

The AE86 is on ebay, looks like it might be sold (FINALLY!). It's a shame, I really loved driving that car for the short time I did. But the AE92 with full options is so much more comfy and practical to drive.
I will sell the AE92 engine, with wiring and ECU, but shipping would be the killer. Make me an offer if you really want it Typrus....Just make sure you can find an AE86 intake, or mod the AE92's.
The steering wheel is pretty beaten up, it would need to be recovered. Plus, if it is for the Tercel, I think it would be too shallow. I also have a steering wheel out of an 86 GTS that would be a closer fit. It isn't leather, so it is in good condition. If you are interested in either, let me know....
GTS, what are you looking for injectors for? I have a few sets sitting around. Some off the early AE92 GTS, some off the later, and some other random ones. The earlier AE92 ones max flow is 213cc/min, the later 250cc/min. I may have a later set available that were cleaned and flow matched about 7000 miles ago soon. I also have a later set that haven't been cleaned, from a 4AGE with under 70,000 miles I'll let you have cheap. If you let me know what you need em for I will try to match up what I have with what you need (if I have them, that is).
I also have random other 4A/GE engine parts lying around. A 4A block honed and pretty clean, some used, but in great shape, 4AGE pistons, a ECU from a 86 GTS, and a whole lot of other stuff if anyone needs anything. I really need to get some of this stuff out of my garage. It is hard to work on a vehicle with blocks and stuff all over the place. And I would rather see em go to you guys than some of the idiots out there. Plus, I will always consider trading stuff....
Anyway, let me know.

The rear brakes off a FX-16 will not work on a 4wd Tercel... Maybe a 2wd though...

Hey Fingers, I'm looking for the 213cc injectors with the dual spray pattern. They came in the 88-89 4age's (just before the small port). I'm going to put them in my 87 4age, as they improve efficiency and power a little bit because of the dual spray pattern. I'm not looking to spend too much though. Maybe $40USD plus shipping. This might not be enough for you... Let me know if you are interested though. Thanks.

Alrighty....
Sold the 87, I have mixed feelings of sadness and happiness. My wife, just happiness....
Typrus, yes it is a 4AGE, I will look into shipping this week and try to see what kind of price I can get together for you.
Now this is a funny thing. I SWEAR I had heard of people switching out the brakes, etc. from a FX-16 on to the 4WD with minor modifications. I'm not sure if it was here or somewhere else, but I am pretty sure it wasn't too difficult of a task to accomplish. Anyway, it's not a FX, so it don't really matter.
Those are the near impossible injectors to find GTS. I guess you probably know this though. I looked for a set of these forever, as I had 2 bad ones from when I sent mine in to be cleaned. So Linder Tech still has my 2 good old ones and I was planning on sending in these 4 for cleaning, hoping to get a complete set. Now, according to the injector guru, the 23250-16080 (the ones you are looking for) used a ball assembly to create the spray pattern, and the others (23250-16130) used a more typical cone design. He claims that when they were flowing the set they sent me that, in comparison, the pattern SHOULDN'T really make any significant difference, as long as both were clean and diffusing the fuel properly. If this is all true, I don't know. They both have 2 spray points as opposed to 1 on the earlier 4AGE injectors. I have been using the later, and couldn't tell you of any difference, considering I have a lazy O2 sensor and a slightly defective AFM, as well as the porting and such. I guess if I can salvage the good parts I could make a comparison. Also, the problem you may have is the resistance, as the 88-up 4AGE didn't use a separate resistor. They were around 14ohm injectors, while the earlier ones were around 2 with the resistor. But, you could bypass the ballast and use the high impedance injectors with the older ECU, at least I think that works....If I come across a set i will grab em for you though.
Anyway, I'll get back with all of you soon....

Thanks Fingers! I didn't know they were so rare actually. I have heard that if I completely remove the resistor with the older ECU, it'll work fine, but I'm not totally sure. Well, either way, if you do come across some, let me know. Thanks, Nick.

They will bolt right onto a 1986 2WD Tercel hatchback with no modifications. I've done that. I don't know how easy it would be on a 4WD wagon.Fingers wrote:Now this is a funny thing. Lol...
Why? The rears off an FX would be less effective than off a GTS... A FWD car typically has 80% of its braking up front and 20% in the rear whereas a RWD car is more like 60-40, front/rear respectively. Our cars are set up in RWD config. So roughly 40% of our braking comes from our ass-end. Just disable the rear brakes and see how well it brakes... Believe me, I know... From doing my rear drums and having the shoes WAAAAAAY too adjusted in. Its VERY hard to stop without the use of those rear brakes.
So pretty much, a FWD car will have significantly weaker rear brakes, likely with less frictional area, as compared to a similar RWD. The FX and the AE86 are about as similar as they get.
Is yours RWD? I don't know too much about the 92's.
I'd love to know about your asking price and shipping. I have to weigh my possibilities. Its going to be around $700-ish to get my 3AC running... If I can get a 4AC that has the mods I want, or a 4AGE for that or less, I may well jump on that. I'm still very nervous about my tranny. ESPECIALLY with my foot. And I still have yet to figure out my frame reinforcement. Still curious about just getting a few 1/8 inch or less steel strips, maybe 2-3 inches wide, and welding them in along stress points. It'd double (or more) the current thickness, significantly beefing the strength. At least I'd think.
HOW DOES ONE STITCH-WELD?

Still price shoppin' for you T, I should have it figured out by the week-end, it's tough to find time when I keep having to take these baby shifts....I am waiting for a few shippers to get back to me with quotes, I found a few places that will put it on with other deliveries for a lot cheaper than freight companies....

It'd be 6 or 7 on the West coast right now.
Have you gotten any quotes yet? A high-ball estimate would suffice for now, I just have to have an idea...
I'm on mega-budget, so I need an idea of what you'd like and what you'd be willing to except so I can find out the realism before anyone gets too sure in any direction. Remember, I have to convinve the parental units that this is worth their money.
So I guess I need to know what condition the engine is in and all that ... Miles... How often was the oil changed... All that good stuff.
Sorry to be such a hastle.
