Trying to get things together for swapping a 4alc for a dead 3a. The parts place is a 2 hr round trip and I've got to get it done in a weekend so I'd like to have all the parts needed on hand prior to starting. I also live 6 hours away so necessary maintenance replacements will be done as well.
I'm thinking I should get these parts
Water pump
fuel pump gasket
water pump gasket
manifold gasket
timing cover gasket
oil pan gasket
exhaust manifold to exhaust pipe gasket???
carb rebuild kit?
Upper/lower radiator hose
heater hoses
fan belt
timing belt
spark plugs
spark plug wires
distributor cap and rotor
oil filter
air filter
pcv filter
breather filter
fuel filter
I haven't had the pleasure of having to do this conversion before so PLEASE tell me if you see something necessary for the conversion that is missing. I'm used to dealing with small block and v-6 American motors so I'm not sure if some of the gaskets I've listed even are used or need to be changed in the conversion.
Let me know any suggestions or comments
New parts needed for 4alc swap
Vac. hoses should be replaced. If you are going to rebuild the carb, I'd recommend replacing the O2 sensor as well (it will help when trying to tune the carb if using Toyota specs, if the old one is bad).
Bandages could be helpful as well.
Besides oil, I'd say to go ahead and drain and fill the tranny while you are doing all the work. If you have a manual, I'd do the clutch and such and if auto go ahead and get a filter for it.
And make sure you have some cotter pins as well. I always forget those.
Good luck!
