4AGE Revelation?

Post by Typrus »

If 20v did a 4wd conversion to his Hatchback, and the HB's weren't meant to handle 4wd to start with..... Isn't it logical that our 4wd's that ARE meant for 4wd would have less body-torsion? Thus, a tougher tranny+20v 4AGE would not tweak the body?

Just a thought...
20v, your opinion?

how much power does the 4age put down? i really dont think its enough to twist anything that much, i think half shalfs and other weekness would show first. the reason i say this is my mustang that has only a few bolt ons squats on the driver side cause of the way the motor and drivline turns and the tq goes to that side taking the path of least resistance, it has about 280lb tq at 3200rpm to the ground. i dont think that motor is anywhere near the metal binding force, but it is deffently at the part braking force.

actually, if you look at the cross sectional area of the roof, mine is less. IOW, it is stronger. The vehicle is not physically longer but the roof is. It does not have a whole lot more reinforcement in it either. Has a longer axis to rotate on. Not to mention it's 18awg steel.

The physical unitbody construction of the cars are realistically identical.

If you think I'm wrong, try it. :)

I don't want to sound rude, but this has been covered before. As far as a mustang is concerned, you are comparing apples to oranges. But they do have a common denomonator....what is that???

if you increase the hp w/o supporting it, you are going to break something. Double the HP of the mustang, w/o doing any other suspension or frame or tranny mods. What you think will happen?

Good point on the roof, but I've honestly never seen the sub"frame" of a hatchback. Maybe our wagons are beefier, maybe not. I honestly am not sure, as I have not had a one-one comparison. It was just a thought. I figured that a design meant to handle stresses another wasn't intended for would hold better than the other. But again, I'm not sure. As you said, they may well be one in of each other in construction.

Its funno how so many people will brag about their power, but never mention the other mods required. For instance- my dads F-250 with about 500 horses and 1200~ft/lb of torque needed a much beefier aftermarket tranny to take the power. So far the axles and such are ok, but a $5500 tranny is modification enough lol. That sucker does rock pretty hard side to side when you floor it in neutral. Well, floor-remove-floor-remove... Hehehehehe... Black soot city...

Whenever I learn how to weld, get ahold of the proper welder, and can afford to paint over the sanded off parts >.<
