$825 or best offer
-in Merrick, NY 11566
-will probably list on Craigslist soon

We've had this car for a number of years. After my other car was stolen more than a year ago, I've been using this as my regular driver. I've put more than 12,000 miles on it since last June, and it runs well. (Mostly highway between Central Pennsylvania, New York, and Washington DC.) I was surprised at its reliability.

I am highly interested in this car. I am looking for an automatic 86 Tercel 4wd Wagon. I live in Wellesley, MA though. Should I drive over and arrange a test drive of it, or is this not recommended due to the power rack? :D :D :) :) :) :? :?

The car is perfect to drive.
Last summer, my Civic was stolen in Philadelpia, and this Tercel became my primary driver.
Over the last year, I've drive over 12,000 trouble-free miles.
Almost all were highway miles between my school in central Pennsylvania, my home in Long Island, and my girlfriend in Washington DC.
So I drive 250-300 miles regularly with no problems.
I wouldn't think twice about driving up to MA.

Depending on how interested you are, I could drive the car to you. I suppose I could take Amtrak back to NY.

If I can't import another Tercel 4wd, a foreign one in Norway:
http://www.tinde.no/au/car.tas?Ref=1165849, then I'd be highly interested in this car and fixing it up and using it as a daily driver. Maybe fully restoring it.

I listed the Tercel on NY's Craigslist for $750 obo.
I had people come last night. I have some more potential buyers looking tonight, tomorrow, and Saturday.
I hope to sell the car by this weekend.
So, if you're highly interested, you must act quickly. Else, you'll miss out.
I'm still up to driving up to MA.

I can't believe I'm actually writing this and commenting on your post, but...
Did you ever actually* look at the NHTSA maze one must navigate to import a non-conforming
vehicle to the USA (let alone the transport costs and the bringing-into-compliance costs)?
An automobile must be at least 25 years-old to bring in without full compliance requirements and,
Gee Whiz, you still have $2K +/- transport costs plus dockage fees plus duty plus the required
import agent's fees plus...(ad infinitum).

It's only a Tercel (much as I hate to write that).
* I would think not.

ARCHINSTL, I looked at the site, but I don't care about what they say. I think this car complies with all applicable standards of their stupid standards for importation. They say that it must comply with all applicable standards if it is less than 25 years old. I'm 100& sure that this version of 4wd Tercel fully complies with all applicable safety standards. It would be vehicle eligibility number VSA-80. I can't wait to import this beauty! The seller, named Remi, said he would have it shipped to New York, I could drive over there and pick it up, or, I could then have it shipped from there to Boston. I wonder. The seller said that the total shipping charge to NY for this car would be $1,547.19 and the car, itself, is $2,566.41 USD. I think I can still import this beauty, which in total, not including any shipping from NY to Boston, if possible, is $4,113.84. I believe I am willing to pay that. I am doing this. No one, not even the NHTSA will stop me!!!! :twisted: :evil: :x :D :D :D

OK -
I am impressed with your certainty that the car will be compliant, particularly with the different lighting
codes peculiar to Europe. and etc and etc and many more etcs.
Well. when you go to the dock to collect it (with a pocket full of cash), don't be disappointed when the
nasty Customs Man says "NO." And then you have a bill to ship it back to - where? And in the mean-
time the car is incurring demurrage charges for which you will be responsible.
Do keep us informed of your Quixotic quest.

Gasoline Fumes, What is the brand and model of your engine ignition start button for Hornbeam, your wicked cool fuel injected silver 1986 Toyota Tercel SR5 4WD Wagon? Also, if I wanted to keep the engine in the import Tercel, if I can get it, :wink: , can you come over to MA and fuel inject that one with a Suzuki Swift EFI Throttle Body? That would sound cool. Can you even let me sit in Hornbeam and rev her up, even give me an off-road test drive in her? lol
