4AC swap

Post by Lollypop »

Hey peeps I'm having my brand new 4AC put in my car in the next few weeks

The 3AC in my car has a burnt #3 valve which will cost me about $1000 so I just as soon spend that money puttin my 4AC in (besides the fact I'm dying to have my big motor in)

My question is:

I need to know from you fellas who have done the swap exactly what differences as far as parts will be needed for the 4AC. What I mean is if I put the 4AC in (whic is a long block) swap over the alt., A/C, Carb, Mani, and the like will I be done or is there some kinda special shit I need to swap or do to have the job done?

soon as I get this info I'm doin it.

Oh yea nick posted a link to another site where a fella did this swap but I cant get it to open do I have the link right?

As far as I know the 3A and 4A are basically the same engine with a different bore and/or stroke so the thing should just bolt in. You will need to change the sump over as the terc uses a strange shaped one to clear the gearbox and steering rack.

The real question is the clutch but if all else fails the one from the 3A should bolt on to the 4A if needed.

Good luck and keep us posted as to how you go.

Cheers,

Terry

swap

Post by likintercssofar »

I installed a 4ae in mine. I had to swap all acc brackets as well as the motor mounts, oil pan, and water pump. Would never consider putting the 3a back in!!!!!

Well as far as I can see being that my 4A is a longblock once I take everything from the 3A to make it a full motor I will have it all except the oil pan. Or atleast I hope so

When people say that the 4A is a direct replacement for the 3A in the book....what book are they talking about where do I find this info.....my mechanic is doing the work so I'd like to be able to show him that because he's a little leary of the swap?

Do you mean that you re-used the original 3a stuff or that you had to swap these in from the 4a donor car?

i used all the brackets and motor mounts from the 3a and bolted them on to the 4ae. Then the engine dropped right in its rightful home.

4 ac swap

Post by hornett22 »

have your mechanic call me if he wants to be reassured.it's no different than if he was putting another 3ac block in it.just swap EVERTHING over to the 4AC except the cylinder head.and you'll be fine.you have to swap the oil pan and oil pick up tube.i'd swap the jets from the 4ac carb over or just change the bottom of the carbs around.there is usually an extra vacuum port on the bottom section of the 4ac carbs.

this is a good time to do your clutch and timing belt and all seals.don't forget to check all timing belt idlers and tensioner bearingsas well.

it would be no different than putting in the 3AC crate motor then.tell him to pretend it's a 3AC.
