Distributor Dilemma - Related To "What Did I Fry",

Post by ARCHINSTL »

Well -
I was going to buy a new igniter/ignition module at $138 at Advance, and was advised there apparently was a sale on Cardone distributors at $184 - so I bought the whole thing. The sale was through the local store, as the online price was $225, oddly...

ANYway, when I took in the core, I forgot to remove the dust covers for the coil and the igniter. I started to install it last night, and discovered my boo-boo.

The Advance fellow advised that the core is somewhere in the system "...on the way back to the warehouse, and he can't call it until Monday (tomorrow)." I really don't hold out too much hope for that, whether for his actual call or for luck in finding it... I also wrote Cardone and attached the enclosed photo...anything to help...

So - are these parts vital until I can locate replacements? The FSM just advises one to replace them when installing the parts, but does not emphasize their importance. They are there for a reason, I'm sure. But will I fry something else until then? Should I tape them up best possible with electrical tape? Anyone else left off these dust covers?

Thanks to all -

Might be there to prevent a stray spark from getting to them...plus dust? I think someone could send you some spare covers for not too much?

I'd imagine most pick-n-pull type yards would give away stuff like that. If not, just pocket them.
