rear axle compatability

Post by splatterdog »

Got a bent rear axle housing and I thought that toyota borrowed them from the corolla line. Just wondering if so and what years were the same as I am sure it would be easier to find them than our beloved terc's in the yards.I'm putting new tires on soon and I would like to get rid of the 1/4 inch of rear toe in! On a similar note- how about rear coil ideas. I cannot find any aftermarket springs I haven't checked the dealer yet because they always scare me. Anybody have a part # that fit well and maybe added an inch or two. I would rather not use the shocks for any lifting help but have not ruled it out yet.

Thanks all.

The rwd SR5 corollas (83-87 I believe) have the same rear end, and maybe even some other older rwd corollas too. However the diff ratio is different, so you'll need the diff from your original tercel rear end.

Or a GTS rear end 4.1 combined with a later gen Terc 4.1 front? That'd give you some beef, and potentially limited slip... Dunno whats required for the swap.

79-83 corolla sedan and coupe rear axles should work too, considering they were actually in the parts bin when the tercel was designed. corolla wagons are leaf spring so it would take some new brackets for those.

i bought a Tercel once that had the 87 tranny and 83 rear end. i ordered a used differntial from "All Toyota" in Buckely Washington and recieved it three days later. it was a Corolla differential. worked out fine.
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

Good luck finding a Corolla GTS rear end. If you find one, I will give you the rear from my (or any of the others around here) Tercel and cash. I have looked everywhere, I am at wits end....
