oilpan gasket

Post by T-Bone »

I was wondering what has to be done to replace the oilpan gasket? I was looking under my tercel and I noticed that there is like the cradle thing that the engine sits on covering the oil pan. Is there room to work around it?

Haven't done this myself, but doesn't look like you need to pull the engine. The procedure is covered briefly on pages LU-4 and LU-5 of the FSM, and also covered on the AutoZone site here http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroke ... 1b7a07.jsp

If it leaks a little...best bet is to snug the bolts down just some...I'd use a torque wrench so you don't overtighten them.

If someone has overtightened them...even a new gasket might not help much.

I've had the pan off of an auto trans at least 5-6 times and use the same gasket over and over...no leaks.

ill check the bolts and see if they are tight. when you took your pan off did you have the engine out or was it still in the bay?
