New wheels

Post by Aldavr6 »

Recently I bought 4 1986 MR2 wheels :D and I was told they'll need "shouldered lugs" My question is, can I use the fone I have from my factory wheels?

I have the same wheels, as does GTS Sports Coupe. I believe that I used the lug nuts that came off the MR2, since I got them when I bought the wheels.

You cannot use the acorn-style lugs that came with the steelies. The alloy lugs are a bit longer and have a free-spinning waher-type thing to prevent damage to the rims. I think ones off a Cressida or Supra will work on our threads.

I have 14" alloys off a fwd Corolla GTS (same size as the MR2 rims). I also used the lugs that came with the wheels. As said above, you can't use the stock steel tercel rim lugs with alloys.

The thing is that the guy didn't have it. So, I went to Autozone to buy them, but they didn't have it :? . Any ideas where I can get them? Thanks for your help.

You can get them new from Toyota, but they are outrageously priced. Usually the wreckers have bins of lug nuts. Maybe ask if you can search for lugs? Or, most other Toyotas from the same era (80's) that have alloy rims use the same lugs. Just find a car that you can grab lugs from. Or a couple cars, then you could leave two lugs on each wheel so you don't have to take the wheels off the cars.
