question about the 4AGE swap...

Post by T-Bone »

I did a search on the topic of the 4AGE swap into the tercel SR5. I read a lot about the swap but there are still a lot of things that I didnt understand. The first question that I have is about the flywheel. Is there a flywheel that can be used with the stock tranny where you dont have to grind any of the bellhousing wall to make it fit (like would the 3AC flywheel work with the 4AGE)? Another question that I have is about the engine mounts. Will the 3AC engine mounts work with the 4AGE and if not what ones will work? Also will the 4AGE wireharness still allow my stock tach to work right or will I have to re-wire it to work?

Oh... and the can get a 4AGE for free but the only thing is that its out of I think an 87 MR2. I thought I read somewhere that you can oly use ones from an AE86 becuase they are setup different or something. I cant remember what the top color was I think it was Red/Black.

You can use any 4AGE. The AE86 GTS ones are just a lot easier owing to their RWD config (longitudinal, aka North/South as opposed to transverse, or East/West). There is some question about the dist, but 20v put a 20v Silvertop in his Terc and it cleared.
I think the 3AC fly will work, but a professional shop that NEVER half-asses must weld in the factory holes, weight balance it, then re-drill the 4AGE fly-bolt pattern in. Thats how I understand it.
Dunno about the tach. I personally would recommend the MR2's tach as it will read the proper redline.

You are ware of the potential tranny repercussions?
