Hey y'all I'm fixin' to have to replace my clutch disc and I figure if I'm gonna do that I might as well replace the the pressure plate too.

Thing is what do ya think about me using OEM New Old Stock Aisin parts I came across or would I be just as good with O'Riley's specials?

My quick take is .....
Replace everything you can now because you will not want to take it all apart later if there is a problem.
I reccomend using the best parts you can get for the money you have. I went aftermarket on my clutch, pressure plate and flywheel and am very happy with the results. but then again I am only 1000 miles in.

I've got about 30,000kms on the Napa kit. Has worked great so far. I abuse it lots too.

I used a clutch kit, and paid the few extra bucks for the Exedy brand. Avoid any clutch disc that uses rubber biscuits instead of springs. They popped out in my Terc and prevented disengagement.

Well I'm just checkin' .......The Aisin brand is the original one that comes on our cars....I think. The way I figure it if thats the original and the one I have lasted this long I cant go wrong. Whatcha think?

I've noticed that with some of the Japanese replacement parts...that even though they are sold by the dealers as OEM...they might not be of the same quality of the originals.

Even then...good chance they are at least as good as aftermarket in general.

If you have original OEM parts...go for it...I might have the original clutch in mine at 230 K miles.

I'd do the PP...disc...throwout...pilot bearing...lube where needed.

Yea i plan on replacing all that needs can be replaced while its open.

I've done lots of clutches in the past but never one on a 4WD, may let a shop do it. Anybody ever done thier own on our cars?.....PIA? or not too bad?

I've taken the trans out...but not the diff part. There are several threads on this and maybe at least one writeup in the repair area.

With this car...the 4WD really isn't issue the issue so much...it's the FWD.

One method is to take the trans out...then the diff...then reverse the order. The other is to pull the engine.

I'd read all you can about it cause there are some things you need to watch out for.

I'll let someone who's done it answer....

Heh. I pulled the engine. The issue with this is that its quite difficult to keep the input shaft on the tranny from hanging up on the pressure plate fingers and breaking off. I broke 2 pressure plates that way. Either way will be a pain, but I'd say removing the trans may be the best method. Maybe.

I went with a NAPA Proven Performance. I spilled a bunch of Marvel Mystery Oil on it accidently. OOPS! Well, It gripped fine.... for 100 miles. Then slip and burn city.
It's been 5000 miles and I'm on the same clutch.

I'd pull the engine. But I have access to an engine hoist and hate crawling around in gravel under a car. If I had a lift and transmission jack, my answer might be different.

Well stil not real sure if i let a shop do it or not but it will be real soon....clutch is getting worse by the min...and the main reason for a shop job is I dont wanna be without my Myrtle for too long

Hey I have a bud who just bought a '96 Jeep Cherokee today. someone has begun setting it up for rock crawling. It has some Kool ass stuf on it. It has bars on the underside of the outside edges of the body, installed like a set of nerf steps but much closer in right under the doors the whole length of the body, its there to keep the rocks or anything else from banging the body. sway bar diconnects, front bumper removed and a small bumber bar installed in a raised position and the fenders cut

Its Bad ass...some of these things may be able to be done to the Tercs Soon as I get a chance Ill snap some pics and show y'all

Heh.. Guess I should say that it stopped slipping and burning... Unless its very hot out and I try and burn out repeatedly.

nothing wrong with OEM, but probably a little expensive.

i'd replace everything, pilot bearing, throw out bearing, pressure plate and disc. the bearings are cheap, and nothing is worse than having to take the tranny out twice (especially in a tercel 4wd!! trust me, i know)

exedy is good, alot of people on the integra forum have used them and said they are quite a bit better than stock and substancially cheaper too.

Replacing the cutch is easy. (at least so -I- think)

It's easier than pulling the motor

I used a hayes clutch pack and a trd clutch.

both are good.

no complaints for either.

be sure to get the kit. it will come with the clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, and alignment tool. While your there, put a new pilot bearing in. Also, if you are running on a bad clutch, there is a good chance you sill need to get your flywheel turned. Just a heads up!

I'd go with genuine Toyota...Its the main reason we are all here, the incredible duriblity of all things Toyota...Why then step down to just average? I've had bad luck with NAPA....Big Example: Thermastat, NAPA's "OEM" doesn't f***ing work! Compare what NAPA gives you and what Toyota gives you...They are different, not only in the hidden quality but construction...kinda personal peeve on that one...but I'm convinced to stay with the Toyo quality...As far as a clutch goes, they always say change everything under there... Its a pretty, not difficult but long job so get it all done(whether it looks like it needs it or not)while its opened up and easy to get to and do...I myself bought this current tercel and the gal said when they changed the clutch "they left a part out"...Of course she had no idea what it was...Well it was the throwout bearing and it soon after started rattling(what she meant was they did not replace the old one)...I ignored it and after 40,000 or so miles I lost first gear...All that loose play has a price...So come Spring up here I'll swap transmissions and do the complete clutch kit job...Now where to shop? I think a new thread is in order for that...
