tercel facelift

Post by Mac »

i undertook this seemingly little project, took much longer than i thought, 1 month...

all in all i ended up replacing:
-front driveshafts L&R
-rear drums
-inner and outer tie rods L&R
-left front wheel bearing and seals
-front strut mounts L&R

and including:
-clean and lube calipers
-body work on rusty areas (fenders)
-re rustproofing of trouble spots
-painting the wheels bronze to match the echo
-changed the tranny oil
-painting exposed areas of rotors black to prevent unsightly rust (except where rotor meets hub & wheel)
-painting the calipers and drums red
-cleaning the EGR
-front wheel alignment
-re mounting of wheels & tires, super balanced and roadforced by yours trueley.

i did all the work except for the wheel alignment, i had the suspension guy do it for me in exchange for a case of beer, did a really good job 0" toe and 0 degrees of camber, so its exactly at factory spec 8)

and the wheels are out of balance by 3oz each which amounts to nothing, most tire shops get it to within 15oz.

the car is smooth going down the freeway, no vibrations all the way to top speed, 140KM/H it feels amazing compared to before.

heres some pictures of the work, i'll try to get a full body shot soon, it looks ready to take on Colin Mcrae at WRC now 8)

Not hard to do if he's driving a Skoda Fabia. All you would have to do to beat him is finish the rally.

Nice work Mac! Thanks for the pics too! You're car should be good to go for a while. It looks like the body is in pretty good shape on it too.

Do you do any exploring around (4wding) in it?

it was mostly on my credit card actually!

sorry about not getting those pics for you guys yet, my ex uses the tercel untill june (she helped finance the work, so shes getting her use of it), then i get her back, then i'll have pictures and i'm going to start fixing her up so i can get collectors insurance in 2007 8) period specific mods are acceptable, so i'm going to probably going to put on some 15" celica wheels, webber carb, custom 2.25"exhaust, and if i happen to run into some oldschool Japanese goodies i'll put them on too :D
