Although all models and even later Swiss models, JPN and USA and CND always used the small rear license plate holders w/o the rear fog lamp. AUTO DRIVE (Cruise Control) was only introduced to the American market in February 1985.
Closest model to Carib is a tricky one. The Carib has three trim levels: AV-I, AV-I RV-Special and AV-II.

The least equipped Carib AV-I had small bumpers, small door trims and no inclinometer. In that way 1982-1984 Australian/New Zealand basic models are quite close. Biggest differences are Carib badges and front grille + front headlights at least.

Better equipped model is AV-I RV-Special. It has inclinometer, wide door trims, bigger safety bumpers and US style headlights. US SR5 models are kind of similar due to similar headlights and bumpers. Biggest differences are LHD vs. RHD steering wheel position, badges and inclinometer in later models.

And AV-II is similar to AV-I RV special with some extras. AV-II has in some cases US-style seats too. So 1982-1984 American/Canadian SR5 is pretty close due to similar mask, big safety bumpers, inclinometer and headlights. Biggest differences are LHD vs. RHD and badges, seat fabrics in some cases and inclinometer in later models.

Gen spec. is quite similar with Carib RV-special. Biggest differences are seats, inclinometer in some cases, badges and small bumpers. But it is quite hard to choose, which model is actually closest to Carib. Toyota made intentionally differences between market areas. Same thing is still noticed in todays Corollas. They are similar but different in details.

https://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_1942638-T ... -1985.html

and this site shows parts from the latest original collision and fast-mover quick reference parts catalog to the EUG, EUR, ARL, GEN and FRG models and more. This one is to the AL25RG-ZWFDS, the closest GEN SPEC model to the Carib model #s:

https://japan-parts.eu/toyota/gr/1985/t ... electrical

Here is my May 1986 New ZEALAND brochure:
This is a very tricky one. I did check all SR5 models according to MEGAZIP and they are:
AL25RG-ZWFQCQ
AL25LG-ZWFQCK
AL25LG-ZWFQCA

In the meanwhile some examples of DLX-models are:
AL25LG-ZWFDCG
AL25LG-ZWHDCK
AL25RG-ZWFDSW
AL25LG-ZWFDS
AL25RG-ZWFDSW
AL25LG-ZWFDCK

Some of these combinations have only 5 letters meanwhile other ones 6. You can find similar letters in both trims exluding fourth letter. SR5 models have always Q meanwhile DLX have always D.

However, your New Zealand example is actually very interesting. With lookup of AL25RG-ZWFDS emblem it shows SR5 emblems. And according to database details of AL25RG-ZWFDS are:

AL25RG-ZWFDS

Year
1982 - 1988

Sales region
General
Frame
AL25
grade
DLX
body
WG
ENGINE
3A

MTM
From
08.1982
To
01.1988
Gear Shift Type
6F
Vehicle Model
TERCEL
Driver's Position
RHD
Destination
GEN

So based on model description fourth letter and based on spare part catalog this could be a DLX model Tercel with SR5 door trims. In that case it is both DLX and SR5 due to DLX model description and due to SR5 badges. And yes, Gen spec. model for Gen destination.

That Egyptian movie car does not have SR5 badges on rear licence plate holder so I would not call that model an SR5. Even early Australian SR5 models which had "4wd" door trims instead of SR5 emblems, had SR5 emblems on the hatch unlike this one. So why this one would be an SR5 model?

And New Zealand case I answered in my previous reply. Fourth letter of AL25RG-ZWFDS is D, which refers to DLX. However, spare part catalog has indeed SR5 emblems. So AL25RG-ZWFDS model could be both DLX and SR5 due to model description and due to emblems.

I never said that one was an SR5 and you are incorrect again. D can refer to SR5 like it does in New Zealand and Chile where they also sold the car! Remember what I said about the Carib?

You clearly don't know anything about the AV-II Caribbean then and it shows with your lack of knowledge on the Tercel ZWFDS model. They had three models of those: SR5, low DLX and High DLX. The model in the Egyptian movie is a High Deluxe. They did not have an SR5 for the GEN until Jan 1983

So according to your false logic, an AV-II (SR5) Carib is a DLX because the model number is E-AL25G-MWFES, not MWFSS. That is a slippery slope fallacy

Those models were sold in Chile, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Egypt, Brunei, the Bahamas and the Caribbean as far as I know. Check this Chilean advertisement out I saw on FaceBook:
I am ok with everything except the Netherlands. Here you can see the 2023 article from Dutch Toyota: https://www.toyota.nl/ontdek-toyota/nie ... ota-Tercel

I have attached pictures from that article to my answer in case the article will disappear from Dutch Toyota Website. Dutch Toyotas are very similar with rest of left-hand drive Tercels. Wide licence plate holder, European / Australian grill and ECE approved headlights. The main common factor between all European Tercels are E-approved headlights. It is European version of DOT approved headlights. That is why Toyota made Europe as sales region in the first place.

I have understood that New Zealand Tercels are highly similar with Australian ones but I am not 100% sure of that either. And rest of countries could be for sure gen spec. Tercels.

Apparently you don't know that they sold the GEN spec model in Europe also such as the Netherlands. That one you showed is not the GEN Spec model

There is no such thing as a hybrid DLX-SR5 Tercel just like there is no such thing as a hybrid SE-AVII Carib.

Closest model to Carib WAS the GEN spec model but that the GEN spec lacked some more Japanese interior features which the American model had, plus the height and length (bumpers) that the Canadian and American models had except to the low AV-I
