Fuel filter

Post by maxitech »

Hey! I am obviously brand new to this forum and have a simple question or two. I have a 1987 4x4 with the 3-speed auto tranny, electronic 4wd, and 144,000mi. Right now it runs a little rough (bogging down at light throttle) and I am going to start by replacing the fuel filter. Where is it located? Also, last time I drove it (about 2 months ago, it is my winter car) it started leaking signigicant amount of tranny fluid...I am thinking its a tranny cooler line.

Welcome to the forum!

Circled in red is the fuel filter, it's only held in by a clip. Fuel might leak out when changing it, so take precautions.

Sounds like you just need to crawl under the car and look for tranny fluid leaks. It could be drain plugs, the gasket, or the lines. Or something else.

Thanks for the tip! I have a few basic "nube" questions. What is the difference between the 3-A and 3-AC motors, and those were the only engine choices, right. When did the production run start and end on these cars?

On a side note, I thought I'd just mention a couple things about myself. I am an avid long-time member of maxima.org and my Maxima is my baby. It is getting some serious mods as it sits for the winter. Thought I'd just mention this to explain where my name comes from. I look forward to exploring this forum!
