Can you hear engine tick only on highway speeds? Then it could also come from bearings, gearbox etc. When I try to listen these noises, I will also test engine on same speed on neutral, on highway, clutch pressed etc. If you hear the tick on every single way on high RPM then you know its the engine....

Could different carburetor models have also different carburetor gaskets? I changed mine last winter and found out that top gasket was different compared to middle and below gasket when browsing carb. gaskets from Rockauto. There are a couple of old threads also in this forum and you want to install...

The similar happened to me once when I jump started my dead battery Tercel with another vehicle. It was a really bumpy ride.

Then I threw another battery and the Tercel ran like champ. Funny how little things can make such a difference.

It is great if you have good wrecking yards around for older cars. Here in Finland wrecking yards have nearly nothing left from 1980's. Every car in wrecking yard is basically from 1990's or newer.

But enthusiasts have saved some parts for the future needs instead here.
