7age rebuild for 1981 tercel

Hello-- I am currently in the process of rebuilding the 7age in my tercel. I was experiencing one oil leak after another, and decided it was time to do a proper rebuild. I currently have the engine completely torn down and ready for the machine shop, but I am waiting for the pistons to arrive so the...

Re: 4AGE Rally Tercel

I think there should be a number of heat shields when the exhaust is on that side of the engine bay: fuel lines (or reroute), starter, steering u-joints, as well as the distributor. a header wrap should get most of it, and perhaps help keep the engine noise low. the head pipe has to snake around th...

HVAC system conversion to servos!

Converted the hvac system in my tercel to use servos! As a heads up, the lovely radio wiring was done by the previous owner haha.

Not sure about the front seats, but the rears will def. NOT swap over. FWD rear bottom cushions are hinged to fold forward allowing the back rests to fold level with the cargo area.
dang, really? that would have been nice to have on the 4wd models...

Re: SR5 vs 2wd Part Compatibility

I would imagine that the front seats would swap over fine. Rears, prolly. Can't imagine that they would have used different seats for fwd and rwd. I tried swapping in a front seat from an 87(?) corolla into my '85 t4wd. Had to completely hack up the mounts to make it work. Definitely would not recom...

Re: Tercel Parts for sale

Contacted him for an SR5 steering wheel for my '81. His prices are absolutely outrageous. He has three wheels--a nice black one, a brown, and a JDM woodgrain variant. He wanted 180 for the black, 125 brown, and 650 for the JDM. I curiously asked if he'd do 50+ shipping for the brown one to match the...

Re: No Crank at Ignition Lock but Runs With a Push Start

So I'm getting ready to do the timing belt on this thing and I noticed it was low on oil. I filled it up and saw it dripping out of the drain plug. The previous owner cut a piece of cardboard for the drain plug gasket. While I was under there I turned the crank pulley by hand pretty easily...the be...

Re: Switched Turn signals to LED . Hyper Flash

Is there a relay thats plug n play with the toyota harness? I know they are three pin, but on my '81 the pins are much closer together than a standard 3 pin relay is.

Re: Clutch noise

How do I investigate that? Drop the trans and/or transfer case? I would pull the motor. I've pulled both the motor and tranny separately before. If you have a lift and are strong / have a friend, that may be the easier route. However, if you have a cherry picker, pulling the motor is the way to go....

Re: Tercel4wd.com Midwest meet/greet??

SirFoxx, I fully understand concerns about being stranded, my wife is thinking about chasing with her van just in case. While the rallycross looks fun to visit, the stance on the Rusty Frog would make me pretty timid ripping around corners. I will definitely catch up with you guys at one of these m...

Re: Tercel4wd.com Midwest meet/greet??

I gotcha. I got a question for ya. How set are you on camping..? Seeing as it might just be the two of us (friends are still trying to decide), what are your thoughts on possibly doing rallycross that saturday and sunday in grain valley instead? I think my toyota racing buddies are going to at least...

Re: Tercel4wd.com Midwest meet/greet??

As it stands right now, its just going to be me, you (nwmo), my tacoma buddy (jacob), and maybe 1 or 2 FJ buddies of jacob. Of the toyota racing dudes, only the tercel guy wants to go, but doesnt trust his clutch, and doesnt know if he'll get one in time. I tried inviting a guy who had a 4 door 1st ...

Re: Tercel4wd.com Midwest meet/greet??

Cobb Ridge campground sounds nice, reasonable and is right in this area at the ATV trails. Chris My truck friend said that date should be good. But we are both curious, are you wanting to go on the trails, or just drive around on the roads? As far as my friend and I could tell, the trails are only ...
