Re: 4:1 trans parts
So I took another look at it today since I didn't tear it completely down yesterday. Well it looks like I'll need an output shaft and the shaft next to the output. The big washer on the idler gear was smashed and a couple of the big ball bearings are damaged. The previous owner had a clutch ...

4:1 trans parts
Tore down the trans and found what I need. Looking for an input shaft, idler gear and possibly output shaft though it might be salvageable. Please correct me if I have the names wrong

Re: Lost trans
I was hoping it was the cv axle but I checked by putting it in 4wd but it still wouldn't move. The car itself is in real good shape, no rust and has all the good options- sunroof, intermittent wipers, etc.. I know I'm gonna get grief for this but I've decided to put the car on a truck 4x4 frame. I ...

Re: Lost trans
Ya the clutch still feels fine and never gave any indication it was going out. That would make most sense since no gears are working. I'm in western sd

Re: Lost trans
It shifts fine into gears but no response. I live in custer county, sd, south of sturgis. I checked the closest pick in pull and they didn't have any of these cars. The car made very loud violent noises and shuddering right before it happend

Lost trans
My input shaft bearing has been making noise for some time now, it started making real loud high pitch grinding noise then I lost all gears. Any ideas? I know it's not clutch related. Not sure what I'm doing with car now cause finding a trans around here is pretty much impossible.

Harmonic balancer
Well my 86 sr5 developed a knock recently and I noticed the harmonic balancer was wobbling. I pulled it off and the key way on the balancer is worn out bad which also screwed up the woodruff key. I bought on from auto parts warehouse but unfortunately it is not the right one. Anyone have any extras ...

Re: Trans noise
Thanks for the info guys. I'm gonna keep driving it for now. It has all the symptoms dlb described, only noisy at low speeds. I somehow managed to find an earlier model trans locally but no matching diff yet. Been wanting to do this swap for better gearing anyways cause man my car is slow

Trans noise
My 86 sr5 transmission is making noise while NOT under a load, I already checked trans fluid level and it was full. While under a load no noises and everything seems normal, as soon as i let off the gas gears make noise while in any gear and neutral. Am I screwed?
