Re: tips&tricks on top end rebuild
Wet/dry sandpaper glued to tablesaw top works too. As long as it’s flat. I sprinkle water on sandpaper

Re: Ignition Key
I recently went to local bicycle/key/lock shop and they made keys for me copying old one.
I have also done the passenger door lock number thing. It’s easy to remove door panel with common flat tip screw driver. Use old tee shirt to snag handle clip loose. Phillips screwdriver for three other screws

Re: Tercel differential rebuild questions
Maybe it’s the rear axel bearing
It’s easy enough to pull axles
Cup bearing in hand and spin shaft
Should be silent and smooth
It’s not worth rebuilding rear diff
Just find a replacement

Re: Tercel differential rebuild questions
Rebuilding a diff is complicated
Having someone do it is expensive
It’s better to find a replacement
Used one

My MR2 brake upgrade experience
My experience with Petros like method MR2 brake upgrade for 1983-88 Toyota Tercel July 2023 After driving a Tercel with the Petros MR2 front brake upgrade I was so impressed I decided to try it on my 1987 Tercel. Its brakes could not make the car skid like the upgrade does. I ordered the calipers/br...

Re: Oxygen sensor ?
The primary butterfly on stock carb will wear on forward side causing it to hang up sometimes not allowing return to low idle. i add extra spring for this.

Re: Souping up a 3A Engine
Quick and fairly easy way to boost engine power is to change the main primary jet on stock carb.
Stock is usually 101 or 103. Put a 106 in there and you will notice an increase in power and a 5 mpg decrease in mpg.

Re: fuel issue?
My friends Tercel sits for months at a time. Fuel pump goes bad. I suspect the Ethanol messes up the pump. I wonder if fuel stabilizer would help stop that?

Re: Blown head gasket scenarios/ diagnosis
I use screw in compression tester that has two sets of threads on end for both thread sizes. Each size thread has an “o” ring. Been using it for 20 years and never had a problem unscrewing it. I prefer it cause I work alone and do not need to find someone to turn the key while holding it in place. I...

My 3a engine rebuild notes
Toyota 3A Engine re-build Block 1. Check rod bearings; remove cap, wipe journal dry, insert Plastigage strip (color green), install cap and torque to spec. (12mm nut 26-32ftlb or 14mm nut 36-42ftlb), Remove cap and use paper gage to determine if clearance is too large. If so, new bearings are needed...

Re: A person generously let me have a transmission
I take every tranny apart and check them before using. I almost always find something in there to fix. There are a few kits out there with some of the bearings and all four seals but they are scarce. One kit includes synchros but that is even harder to find. So really all you can do is replace bad p...

Re: Mouse nest in heater fan, and suggestions for prevention
Remove the wipers then the metal between hood and windshield. If it is rusty and holes in the metal that’s one way they get in. It’s the only way that I have found. I patch the holes with thin metal and some kind of sticky goop. The urathane stuff used to install a windshield works well. Even wet/dr...

Re: Oil drain plug gasket
I attached a picture. Look at right side centered between two spot welds. That is a divot. Under divot is a square notch in the threads to allow every last drop of oil to drain. If you look closly you can make out the square hole. If sheetmetal gets bumped there it will deform the metal and no matte...

Re: 3D printed Synchros?
1st/2nd have same size synchros (largest dia)
3rd/4th have same size synchros. (Mid size dia)
5th/granny have same size synchros (smallest dia),
I have quite a few very good used small ones if anyone needs one
I have some used large and mid but they are worn but usable (better than nothing)
