so the transmission is not popping out. i put the car in gear and begin to take off and loud terable bang. then i put the car in neutral roll it about 1 tire rotation and then lock what could this be? any info would be great. I bought the car like this so dont know any history of what led up to this.

I bought a 86 4wd wagon and the transmission slams out of gear what could this problem be? I got a 84 parts car and hope that the tranny will work any info would be greatly apreciated. I live in whitefish montana anyone in the area
