Hey all,
Novice question maybe but I'm away from my car and book and wanted to order some parts asap so I'm turning to you all to try and get an answer about the inner tie rods for my 83. Manual steering, outer rods are shot and inners are going to get replaced at the same time so I went to order parts and rockauto has two lengths, neither of which describe that they are for something specific. 6.3 inches and 5.7 inches. I can measure on my car next week but I was hoping someone knows why there are two lengths, all the other variable components listed explain what they are for (power steering v. manual etc..) Is one for each side? i remember my cv axles were diff lengths because the diff is off center, is it the same sorta deal?
Thanks for the help!

Re: Inner Tie Rod Length
Interesting, I imagine it's a 2WD vs. 4WD as toyodiy lists the same PN for manual or power racks...
In any case, if I were in your shoes I would buy the longer ones and cut them down if they need to be shorter, it's only an inch difference.

Re: Inner Tie Rod Length
FWD and 4wd front drive train, as well as the steering system, are identical.
the difference as I recall is the power steering uses slightly shorter tie roads because the power steering rack is about an inch larger. I have only seen manual steering for '83-84 model years, it may have been offered but all dealers got the power steering equipped cars only after '84.

Re: Inner Tie Rod Length
Thanks All, This saves me a bunch of days time. I'll order them now and they'll be waiting for me when I get home. Excited to get those shot outers taken care of. BTW: Moog outers lasted about 3 years and 30K and they are totally shot. I drive a ton of dirt roads but I was still surprised to see how wobbly they'd gotten. Cheers everyone.

post a link to the page with the parts you are asking about to make it easy for us to look at them.
you can compare them up close together to verify before you pull it apart. and than once you get it out, study them side by side.
