Hey, does anyone know if the 3ASCV has a more aggressive cam than the 3AC? I know the 3ASCV came as a base engine in the Japanese MR2 and had around 90hp and torque peak at a much higher rpm than our Tercel 3ACs. I know they increased compression, had a better exhaust header, carb etc as well.

What I basically want to do is try to get my hands on a 3ASCV cam and put it in my 3AC to see if I can get a bit more power from it. I'm fairly certain that with the higher power band of the 3ASC, it must have a longer duration cam, maybe higher lift too. The timing might be different too.

Anyone have one they want to sell/lend me so I can try it out? Or anyone else tried this before?

I know of a 3A-SCV in a junkyard, but I don't know whether it'd improve performance or not. It would probably cost me $60 to pick it up.

I'd email some people who regrind cams and see if they can come up with an improved grind and generally what the specs would be. They might not give you the details....but maybe what kind of grind would work best?

My cam timing adventures are over for now......

$60!! That is a sweet deal if it is in ok shape! I'd pick that up in a second if it was near me. Want to buy it and sell me some parts off it? ;) I'll give you $50 for the cam alone.

I think you would be better off with a regrind or buying the whole kit - Weber carb, reground cam, and tighter valve springs, that Paradise Racing offers. The carb seems to be the limiting factor on 3A-C's. And I think $60 was his estimate for the cam, not the whole engine, or else it really isn't your average wrecker!

I was talking just about the cam. It'd cost me $300 to get the engine.

Ah, I see. That makes more sense. Sorry about the mixup. Please PM me if you are interested in buying it and selling it to me with a bit of profit + shipping expenses.

OK, guys. I think I was getting mixed up between the 3A-SCV and the 3A-SU. I know that the 3A-SU has 90hp from the factory. The power is at a much higher rpm than our stock 3AC. After some more research, I think the 3A-SCV only has a 'swirl control valve', but everything else is the same as a regular 3A? Where as the 3A-SU has higher compression, better flowing exhaust manifold, and a better cam.

Basically, I want to buy a 3A-SU cam as an experiment to put in my 3AC to see if I get a shift in my power band. If anyone has one they can sell me, please PM me. I am very interested.

I know I could buy an aftermarket cam, or have a 3A cam reground, but I get a kick out of swapping factory parts around to make more power.

Thanks.
