FS: complete Tercel4wd Air Conditioner

Post by Petros »

I am pulling a complete air conditioner from a Tercel I am rebuilding. There was no belt on the compressor when I bought the car so I assumed it did not work, but when I removed it from the car this weekend the lines were holding pressure, so there are no leaks in the system.

I can include all the components needed to convert a non a/c Tercel into one with A/c. All the brackets, lines, and the duct from under the dash that holds the evaporator and ship it as a unit.

to make it work with the new refrigerant all you need to do is install new compatible o-rings seals in the lines, and you will likely have to rebuild the compressor (or buy a rebuilt one).

Take it all for $25, plus shipping. I might be willing to even deliver it locally if I work it in between my regular travels in the puget sound area.

Does the clutch plate and belt pulley rotate freely against each other and does the compressor itself turn smoothly?

Funny, I thought the last list member who would want this is splatterdog up in scorching Minnesota!
It's a scientific fact that in a twin engine aircraft, when one engine fails there is always enough power in the remaining engine to make it all the way to the crash site.

the pulley turns freely, have not tried to turn over the compressor. I will check that when I get home next week.

P..I dunno if this would apply to 4WDs but on my 2WD automatic with Factory A/C there is a "throttle up" device which kicks in when the Compressor is engaged. It sits near the EGR valve and the EGR valve's vacuum piece; don't forget to pull that if you haven't already.

At least on my 2WDs with A/C when the throttle up went out the engine died with the A/C Compressor engaged.

yep, I have one of those too that I will not need. it speeds the idle speed up when the a/c is engaged. it can go with the complete a/c if anyone wants it.

Is the compressor still available? I was just quoted $900 for a new one by my friendly AC service technician.

How much would shipping be on the whole shebang?

IF you go this rout with Petros' unit (or anyone else's) - DO NOT discard the OE translucent duct between the blower and the heating unit!
There are many with inoperative AC systems who could delete the AC cooling unit/evaporator, substitute the duct, and thereby increase the amount of air flowing through the system during the Winter. It's a VERY simple bolt-in.
I did this a few years ago and am very happy. Not only did the deletion of the unit increase the air flow by its very removal, the flow was increased by there no longer being fins clogged by detritus.
This also gives good access to the heater core; use Simple Green spray and vacuum it. Mine, however, was relatively clean, albeit dusty; the AC unit stopped 99% of the crud.

I am in zip code 30126. Slow boat ground shipping would be fine. Please contact me at imgfx@imgfxdesign.com if still interested in selling this unit.

*edit, I guess I missed the post above, so disregard this post
Seems there's a lot of interest here. I have an original A/C terc (but I think it was dealer-installed). Sadly, someone chopped the evaporator tubes off and ripped it all out. So I am also interested Petros. I think there's an address in WA that will forward bits to Canada, and then I deal with customs on this end - so there's no hassle for you.

So if it's not sold yet Petros, put me on the list.

I might have the hoses, which ones do you need? You are welcome to the hoses. I just sold the compressor and condenser.

Thanks Petros, but I think there's too many other needed parts for me to scrounge up a complete system right now. I basically need the evaporator plus everything in the engine compartment. So I will hold off for now...
