I'd like to do my tercels headgaksket before it gets any worse then the small oil leak out the side.

i'm wondering if anyone here has done it and if they could give me a rough idea of what was involved, if possible i'd like to take off the head with as much attatched to it as possible (manifolds, distributor, etc)

any advice is appriciated

An oil leak is more likely the valve cover gasket?

Check the distributor O-ring, a common source of upper oil leaks...

I did the O-ring, i siliconed the hell outta the valve cover gasket and it dosn't leak anymore, i degreased the engine and the only places it is wet now is at the front and the middle on the drivers side between the block and head.

I live in Surrey, BC, Canada. i'm probably going to use whatever Napa sells because i got a discount there.

mabey i should just buy an entire gasket kit, pretty much everything is going to need replaced anyways, what do you guys think?

Haven't really looked at mine too closely...but I notice after doing the valve cover gasket last summer...I have some oil down the drivers side again...snugged the cover a little. Possible that it's the head gasket....

I'd need to clean it to see for sure.

I've done the head gasket while doing the valve seals at the same time. It didn't make sense to use the old head gasket. You don't need to remove the manifolds, or distributor or fuel pump for that matter. For a head job, it's quite easy.

Hey

Clean the engine and start to look.
Yes the O-ring on the distributer shaft can wear and leak.

Replacing the head gasket is not too difficult. It does take some time.
You can leave just about everything on the head and push out the old gasket and push in the new one. The one thing you will assume is the head is level and does not need to be machined.

One key thing to remember is to NOT TORQUE the head cover too tight. They do crack.

Lordco carries the gasket kit.

I am in Vancouver so ask away. I have done a number.
