OK, I'm gonna go look at that 87 automatic car on Saturday, thanks for the input on the automatic. Now, I was wondering where to look for the rust problems, if there are any usual problem areas. I really appreicate your guys help. If I get it, I'll post pics of it.

No rust problem areas on the Tercel!!

Seriously though, if you have to look to find the rust, you've found a good car. If you have to look and you don't find any, you found a great car.

#1 is to look underneath, inside and around edges. This is where rust will be most advanced.

These are the worst areas. some of them are typical to all cars, some to the Tercel especially.
-Rear fender wells, particularly at near the bottom and on the lip where the two pieces of metal join
-Rocker panels, again with that edge in particular and right next to the front and rear wheelwells where they (shouldn't have) used the shop hoist. Look inside past the ledge, you'll find more there.
-Lower corners of the windshield, around where the serial number is. This is hard to see because some of it is covered up by the cowl piece behind the hood. Look through the cracks.
-Front fenders, inside edges and the part right infront of the door where it mounts
-Inside windshield pillar (A-pillar?) where the drip moulding ends, the part that the door closes against.
-Floor, particularily around the rubber drain plugs

Look everywhere though, it's the places most people don't bother to look that turn out to be the worst.
