protective headlight film

Post by dlb »

i came across some protective headlight film at the local store the other day so i picked it up for $35. when i recently bought lenses for north of 64, they were $75 each from the wrecker, so $35 seems like a good investment. there are two large sheets of the stuff in the package, way more than enough for a single pair of headlights. in fact, by being careful not to make the initial templates too big i was able to cut templates for three tercel headlights from a single sheet of the stuff. two sheets = six headlights, so at $35 for the package that's $6 per headlight. maybe you don't have a herd of '87's sitting at home but i currently have two and will likely have another sometime so it's great for me.

anyway, i just put the stuff on ron so i can't speak for its effectiveness or longevity but it's pretty simple stuff so i don't have many doubts about it. the brand i bought is ricochet. here is an old ad from youtube.

the stuff i bought had the old logo as shown on the above youtube vid but it looks like they've updated their logo and expanded their markets, judging by their website.

There is a HID light convertion kit for about 120$ on ebay! At 75 each at the wrecker the convertion sounds like a deal! I'm gonna buy a kit soon enough so i'll let know!

I would seriously avoid any EBay HID headlights... There's a reason that Hella charges $550/light for HIDs, the quality of Chinese HIDs is absolutely frightening.

I should get that for my composite headlights. I looked for years for these headlights, and finally got a set when they showed up at the local yard. Only one other time in 35 years of driving have I broke a headlight, and of course one week after I found these rare and elusive headlights, I got a giant bulls eye damage right in the middle of the right one. I put sealant on the hole for about six months, and got luck and found a replacement (I was very lucky, it was a 2wd wagon and left side was wrecked).

I have been thinking about making some plexiglass guards, but could not find a good way to mount them, the is film should be an easy install. I wonder if they are available locally, I have not seen them.

If you guys need HID kits I would recommend buying from http://www.ddmtuning.com/Product-Catego ... g/HID-Kits . They are slim ballasts and I have many friends running these. But to be honest HIDs installed into our factory housing is a bad idea as it will blind oncoming traffic. You may want to purchase a clear lens housing then retrofit real OEM projectors from something like an S2000, Acura TL, 350z etc
