I picked up an A/C retro kit for an 87 4wd Wgn ....I have an 86. There seems to be at least a few differences that I'm wondering about...the Compressor to engine bracket seems to be different as well as the pulleys....I believe the newer takes a serpentine belt....I'm hoping that the compressor pully can be changed and I'm hoping that a proper bracket for an 86 will work.. Is there Anybody in the know that could shed some light on this, Please....ie is this do-able?
Appreciably,
TJ
PS I'm contemplating picking up an 89 corolla all-trac....Is there a Forum for these somewhere? The car is almost identical in most areas to the Terc....But I haven't been able to come up with much info on these so I could be way off here.

I put an A/C kit in my 86 about 3 years after I bought the car new. It was for an 87-88. I had to buy a bracket that the compressor and alternator could mount to. The compressor drive belt tensioner also mounts to the bracket. I would try to get the bracket at a wrecking yard. A longer alternator drive belt will be needed since the alternator is set a little further away from the engine. The pulleys won't have to be changed. It is very do-able....if you have a little understanding of refridgeration systems.

I have a set of illustrated instructions to make the job a lot easier. Let me know if you need a copy. If you need any other info...don't hesitate to ask. E-mail me if you want.

Well,

i did remove a complete A/C OEM kit from an '85 SR5 and installed it on my '87. Everything was A1. I did have to change the alternator bracket and the bracket for the compressor. Mine is a 10P13A Nippodenso (Compressor).

Believe it or not, on Canadian models, the wiring for the AC was not installed at the factory. The A/C kit came with a complete wiring for aftersale install. It was a BIG job to install it. But since it works for 2 years now, i'm glad!

Chris, do you have a PDF version of the installation instructions, I would really appreciate to get it

thanks

Vince
