Front ring and pinion went to heaven?
Give a boy a gun-give a biatch a cell phone-and pretty soon you almost got yourself a police state.

This is a silly question, I know, but have you looked at your front axles? if a CV joint gave it up, no power will go to the undamaged side and you'll get no motion. Did you have any clunking going around corners before it stopped moving? I'd look at easier solutions before jumping into a new/used diff.
BTW the ratios are 4.11:1 from '85 on.

pull the front cover off, it is easy to get to, and inspect it. Could be ring and pinion, could be input shaft, could be failed spider gears. You definitely have major problem, so the trans has to come out one way or another. If the problem is contained in the diff only, you can swap out the whole assembly with the 4.1:1 ratio, that way you do not have to set the lash. If it is the input shaft failure, than you probably should start looking for a whole trans assembly since you can not buy hard parts any longer.
