Spam At Home

Post by ARCHINSTL »

Maybe it's my paranoid lobe peeking out, but - has anyone noticed an increase in spam at their home addresses since purchasing something from Auto Parts Warehouse? I VERY rarely received spam prior to my unfortunate dealings with this outfit. Now, not a day goes by without receiving something related to either car insurance, pre-approved credit cards - or (blush) something that in more recent times could be taken care of by buying a HUMMER...

Like most, I have an alter-email account (or two) which I use for many queries - but have used my main, always visited, one for the few over-the-line purchases I've made - for tracking purposes.
Anyone else notice this?

I'd keep tabs on your credit card.

Well - if I receive billing for certain "enhancements" and outlandish postage to the Himalayas - I'll know...

Oohh, Petros - your line is SO fraught with comedic possibilities - but since this is a family Tercel site, I must demur...

OK - I just looked at my Spam folder - there were 19 from something called autos.com, all sent at 8:57AM, plus a few more hawking various products and a couple from unknown insurance companies. What the heck is "autos.com?"

In this day and age it's VERY common for companies to sell information.

A lot of the money that's being made by facebook and twitter(and most web 2.0 websites) is all based on your habits. They want to know who you are so they can give you specialized advertisements.

The shitter side of all that is that it's not really common place for hackers to hack into various ecommerce sites and mine all the user info and then sell it to people.

It sucks, but I doubt your credit card information got sold. They just want names, emails, addresses, and what you like/want.
