a lesson in careful driving

i responded to a bad car accident last night and wanted to share a few pics i took with my phone with you guys. sorry the quality sucks, that's what you get with a free phone. anyway, drive carefully, and if you have to choose between running into a lamp pole and a deer, choose the deer. at least it won't push the engine up over you.

this is the front of the suzuki vitara. looks like a joke because it's so extreme but let the numerous compound fractures and internal injuries assure you that this certainly wasn't the slightest bit amusing to those in the vehicle. the engine is completely compacted and pushed up and back, forcing the dash into the front seats.



this one isn't very clear but it might give you an idea of the tiny space left for the driver after the impact. this is after the doors, door posts, and dash had been removed by the fire department and the seats reclined to extract the patients. there was far less room initially.



be careful on the roads, car accidents suck!

This is the season when deer are on the move, I think the state should mount reflectors on them to make us all safer.

At least one deer is still alive this season because I have my MR2 brake upgrade and better tires.

That looks so painful. Yes, hit the deer, try to "clip" them with the bumper, then jump out and club them the rest of the way to death. Then load up and take home. I'm down to my last few packages of venison from the last road kill...on the look-out for more

Guessing that wasn't one of those break-away poles? Seems it was solidly planted.

it was amazing, the impact not only knocked the lamp light and traffic lights right off of the stand but it also shattered the concrete base in the road that the lamp was fastened to. apparently speed wasn't a factor in the crash so maybe the vitara just really wanted to prove what a solid little vehicle it was.

I had to make way for some Elk this morning on my driveway- The wife wouldn't let me take one out, she needed to be to work to open the door for the students . 800 lbs of elk meat would last awhile, even for four of us .
Seriously, When I wrecked the '83, I was amazed at how well it stood up to hitting a Cherokee on the right rear frame, with the left front corner at a 90 mph closing rate (45 +45). BTW-Not my fault, he spun into my lane in the canyon, I had nowhere to go. But it echoes what David just said- Be careful out there, and as I've told my 16 yr old that's learning to drive- IF YOU HAVE TO, HIT THE DAM DEER!-NOT THE TELEPHONE POLE!
