Where are you located?
My '83 T4WD sat for two years until I finally got a used trans/diff unit.
Go to http://www.searchtempest.com/ and enter your zip code and 'Toyota Tercel 4WD' and see what's available within 250 miles on Craigslist.

A few thoughts:
Any '83-'84 t4wd 6sp manual trans/diff/transfer case assy would be a direct fit in your ride. It does not have to be from a SR5.
If the rest of your trans is fine you MAY be able to just pull the trans, w/o pulling the diff, and change out the 5th gear as it is not inside the main case of the unit. The fifth gear is stuck on the outside of the front of the tranny case and projects out into the backside of the diff housing. I know this because a former 'yota line tech from the t4wd era told me that he replaced a bunch of defective 5th gear sets on the early t4wd's tranny just by pulling the trans off the back of the diff housing. He stated that splitting the trans case apart was not needed.
Also, I'm pretty sure that you can use a later year trans with your current diff. Gives you more sourcing options and would give you a lower 1st, 2nd & reverse gears.

Re: '84 4WD SR5 Wagon Transmission needed
The local Pull-A-Part in Arlington WA has a T4wd trans to fit your rig with 200k something miles on it (I just saw it today). They only cost about $65 to pull your self. Might be worth it just for trany parts alone. But you better hurry, it has been there a while and it might go to the crusher soon.
