yup, I know that. did I imply I was unaware of that? I have actually assisted in selecting and installed such rotors on a $2 million racing programe for Nissan USA back when they had a racing program as part of their marketing campaign (1978-1985). I always thought those would be awesome on a street car, saves weight and improved cooling, but as I stated, very costly compared to the one piece iron rotors. The Professor wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 7:47 am Petros, on a cast iron rotor the hub area is just painted or e-coated, only two-piece brake rotors with an aluminum hat can be anodized anodized.

it is a very worth while up grade, it will not disappoint. best place to the the first gen MR2 master and booster is at a wrecking yard. they show up regularly. You can also buy both the master and the booster new, they are available. but these are pretty pricey to buy new. perhaps they are not common to other cars and not produced in large numbers, neither are any more complex or very different from the standard Tercel or Corolla master and booster.
I would recommend to everyone on this forum to do this brake up grade when their current brakes need to be replaced. the calipers and rotors cost about the same, and it is hardly worth putting in the undersized factory brakes since it will likely just warp on a hard stop, or after a long down hill run. the rotors and caliper up grade can be done without changing the master and booster, and still get most of the benefit.

Called six yards today- one actual said "wow, that old, huh?" There apparently is a conspiracy to scrap cars over 20 years in yards in VT. Rust and such. I may have found a Tercel, but I got anywhere from chuckles to laughs when I said "MR2."

Yeah, I've found it hard to find anything older than the mid 90's in the yards as well :\
Petros: What's the point of changing the master cylinder and booster? The Corolla front brakes I have a slightly bigger than the OEM brakes on my 1st gen MR2 and I don't really have a problem with the feel or force required...

Re: Brake Up-grades MR2 Parts Vented Rotors Corolla Spacer Figs
the MR2 master has a smaller dia, improving the master to slave ratio and it will increase braking force to the wheels. the MR booster is slightly larger dia, and the later ones are double diaphragm. You need the booster to bolt it in the Tercel. the MR2 master will not bolt to the Tercel booster, but odly the MR2 booster fits perfectly to the Tercel firewall mount.
You do not strictly need the MR2 booster except that it felicitates mounting small dia master into the tercel

Re: Brake Up-grades MR2 Parts Vented Rotors Corolla Spacer Figs
older cars seem to show up only in the self service wrecking yards. large traditional yards will not sell a lot of parts from older, less common cars, nor can they get premium prices for them. many of the self service yards will contract with professionals "parts pullers", you just need to find one. If you find an older car in a picknpull in another state you need parts from you can hire the local sercie to remove and ship your part to you. usually it saves money, but mostly it gets you parts for your car you can not get elsewhere.
Every time I notice an MR2 in a local yard I will go and pull the master and booster off of it. I usually sell it to another forum member to allow the conversion.

I have to look and see what I have left, I have not been able to find any cheap mr2 master/booster/brakes for several years.

I have been planning to do this when I get some spare time, I would like to restor the original thread. I think I still have the original photos, from 11 years ago, that I can now be post directly into the forum.
Without the photos, the instruction should be all you need to do it, the pictures just give you a visual reference for first timers.

Re: Brake Up-grades MR2 Parts Vented Rotors Corolla Spacer Figs
Well, I just finished with mine. Car stops like brand new! I couldn't believe how much of an upgrade this is! I did notice I heard some on and off grinding when driving.
I decided to pop the wheels off when I got home and found what appears to be my Golf rotor rubbing on the outer inside of my new calipers on both sides.
Is there a reason for this? What should I do from here?
The caliper didn't slide on particularly the easiest. I had to tap it in some. But it bolted right up and everything functioned smoothly. Besides this wear, obviously.
Here is a few pictures and the parts list will be at the bottom. Thank you! Parts list.

Re: Brake Up-grades MR2 Parts Vented Rotors Corolla Spacer Figs
since it only appears to rub on one side, perhaps the the off set on the rotor is incorrect to center on the caliper. or perhaps the rotor can be be turned down so it is thinner, and will not rub.

Re: Brake Up-grades MR2 Parts Vented Rotors Corolla Spacer Figs
This is why I always hesitate to use parts from another manufacturer that "fit" but aren't identical, particularly for a safety-critical system like the brakes. However this modification seems to have been performed by at least a handful of members, and while that's a pitifully small sample size, I would expect the community would have already identified any incompatibilities by this point in time.
Is this happening on one side only, or both front brakes? First order of business is what Petros suggested; inspect and confirm that the parts are indeed identical L-to-R.
My first inclination would be to inspect the caliper. Make sure the slide pins are greased and aren't binding during operation, same with the piston.
Second thought is to inspect the wheel bearings for play.
Those wheel spacers also give me pause...
