Transmission Q

Post by danzo »

Does anyone know what is necessary to fit a 2wd gearbox into a 4wd wagon? I think there may be gearswitch linkage issues, but I want to know what's involved before I attempt it. I've searched this repair section but didn't find too many details.

What I want to do is slap in a fwd tranny so I have time to rebuild my 4wd one. Are there certain years that would be more compatible? Anything special I should know?

Thanks for any help. In the meantime I need to get my blasted heater working via a 192* t-stat. Driving in sleet last night was no fun.

It's a scientific fact that in a twin engine aircraft, when one engine fails there is always enough power in the remaining engine to make it all the way to the crash site.

you would have to remove the driveline..probably would be best to replace the entire rear diff so you don't have anything dangling back there...

otherwise i think it'd be somewhat straight over.

YOu do not need to remove the diff, just the drive shaft back to the diff. But I think everything else will bolt up and work okay. There might be an issue with the rear cross member, I could be further back on the 4wd trans than the fwd. You might get the fwd trans cross member while you are at it, you may have to rig it with through holes in the floor. You will have the 4wd light switch hanging, and the FWD/4WD lever doing nothing, but that should not hurt anything.

Did you find a rebuild kit for the T4wd trans? If so, where and how much was it?
