I had an '83 SR5 and do not remember this.
I presume you do not mean the regular rearview flip/flop?

The 83 and some 84 Tercels had breakaway side mirrors that were hinged to fold if they got hit. The later ones got the regular fixed morrors.

I thought they had the same bolt pattern. My 86 had a fixed one on the driver's side and a breakaway on the passenger side when I got it. I swapped the wrong one out.
I also slapped the driver's mirror off mine about 3 years ago. Not a good thing to do.

The bolt patterns are a little different from the '83-84s, but the 85s on have the holes to accept the earlier ones. Vice-versa, I don't know. The outer seal design is different on the 85s, so the Yo d'Or has a little funky look on the drivers side, but I'm the only one who notices it.
