1986 WAGON SR5 4WD
1986 WAGON SR5 4WD
Wanting to sell whole-- 1986 tercel wagon sr5 4wd. Body and interior are in great shape, minus stereo and heater blower motor. The engine runs PERFECTLY-- blows no smoke, plenty of pep, cooling system is awesome, runs like new. I bought this car from a junkyard after someone scrapped it because 3rd and 4th gear did not work. I drove it home, pulled the tranny, and cannot afford to get a replacement. I don't want to get rid of it, but desperately need a good running car, and don't have the cash right now for this fix. I am open to offers, and am in this project for around 400 dollars. Please feel free to email-- Flamm_C@yahoo.com
86 SR5 WAGON 4WD NOW WITH PICS
Make offer if interested. Missing 6 speed transmission, heater blower motor. Runs like a champ, drives straight. Great project!

FLAMMC, That is a fine looking automobile. Is that the original paint and is it really as good as it looks in the pics?
You drove it with the old trans, correct? Do you still have the old trans?
What is the mileage?
Thanks

Re: 86 SR5 WAGON 4WD NOW WITH PICS
Hello, Sdoan-- thanks for your interest. Yes, the old transmission is being picked up from the mechanic tomorrow, it has been taken apart just enough to determine that replacement is necessary. That is what the mechanic told me, and he is great-- although not a tranny specialist, so I am not positive. But, I trust him. The transaxle and all the mounts are there. Anyway, yes, I believe the paint is original, and pretty much everything else is, too. I did put a new coat of paint on the rims (can't stand white with rust spots) but everything else is original.
The mileage is 231, 000. Now, I cannot testify as to what has been done to the engine, replacement or rebuild, whathaveyou-- but this little car started right up, no smoke, carb choke worked like new, and ran perfectly with a lot of power for the engine size. I just "showed up" to test drive it-- without calling. The guy handed me the keys and I drove it after it had been sitting for a few days. I was extremely impressed. Not any visible oil leaks, but honestly I did'nt crawl into the guts of it too much yet. The engine does have quite a bit of mungy grease on the block, but doesn't seem to hamper it a bit.
The passenger side outer cv joint boot split when I was pulling the axle, so will need a new boot. The joint itself is in good shape. Other than that, the clutch has 75% left in it, the front brakes will need new pads and rotors machined (that is what I was planning on doing-- just to resurface them-- always a good idea). The heater blower motor was taken out before I bought the car, so I cannot testify whether the ac works-- but everything else does-- even the power steering .
So, in a nutshell, that is what I know about the car. A good tranny and she is ready to run!! Please feel free to email me directly if you like FLAMM_C@YAHOO.COM. Thanks!

Hey FLAMMC, That is a great looking car and I'd kinda like to fix it up, but it's too far to tow to Bellingham. I think I know where there is a usable trans in a car w/ 215,000 miles - the guy at the pick-a-part said it was scrapped for a bad clutch.

Re: 86 SR5 WAGON 4WD NOW WITH PICS
Chris,
I sent you a PM. Thinking about it a little more the car w/ 215,000 miles may be a 1984 (I can't remember! ). My understanding is that the differential gear ratios changed from 1983 & 1984 to 1985-1987. So you might need the pumpkin too. There is also a 1986 there with about 300,000 miles. I was told there were 4 total, but one is a 2wd and I haven't seen the other.
Cheers,
Shawn
